Question regarding maternity entitlement at work

Im about to start a job in the US (moving from the UK) and have been looking at the US Maternity laws. Specifically it says that you are entitled to maternity leave after one year of service.

What im trying to work out though is does that mean one years service BEFORE you get pregnant to be entitled to maternity leave or if i got pregnant six months in and worked for eight months for example would that still be classed as over 1 year of service when i went on leave?

Have you checked how long maternity leave actually is in the US? It may well put you off going!

Im still confunsed. Just need to know if i have to wait a year before getting pregnant to entitle me to any leave or if i just have to have worked 12 months by the time i leave to go on maternity leave?

molly the link I posted has everything including the actual law in question and all its regulations so you can look at the actual text of the legislation (last few links on that page).

I don't have time to trawl through all that text and give you an overview, if you want someone to do that you really need to seek advice from a specialist in US employment legislation, which you are unlikely to find on here. Doing a search for the relevant piece of law and digging out a link with the text of the legislation is as far as I'm going to go.
