URGENT - Postal/delivery services

Wondered if anyone can give me advice on which is faster. I am in the Central Belt of Scotland which as you may have seen on the news was gridlocked yesterday with lots of poeple sleeping in cars, stuck on motorways last night.

Things are improving now, and the motorways are starting to re-open.

I have to get a parcel to Essex by Thursday. The Post Office are not guaranteeing Special Delivery which is the service that I normally use, although they say they are prioritising them.

Given that things are improving, should I go to the Post Office 4 miles away (assuming we can get there) and send it Special Delivery, giving it two days to arrive, or get it to a DHL or other courier service depot, probably tomorrow rather than today, and use their 24 hour service?

I am assuming the post office has a back log to get through, but then so may courier services?

Any advice would be gratefully received.

Come and have a look on the postage board on Ebay - you may get some ideas there

I've ordered many items over the past couple of weeks and still much of it hasn't arrived. I think they all may be as bad as each other - but would trust DHL to be better than the Royal Mail.
