I need an HR qualification to progress any further at work - though I doubt they will give me any time off to study for one! My manager has just shrugged and said she can't give me career advice... helpful!
What are my options? I've vaguely heard of CIPD but thats about it!
thanks
Tilly

Hi Tilly

Yes CIPD website cipd.co.uk is good place to start or try your local college - a lot of people I know gained their CIPD with flexible learning so it can fit around work.

I expect manager will be happy to use your new learning though - typical reaction not very helpful!

www.malpas.co.uk do distance learning too - not sure if they are any good though.

Loads of colleges offer the CPP which is the Certificate in Personnel Practice, and the first step on the HR qualification ladder if you like. A google search should identify colleges where you can study. Good luck.

CIPD is the main HR qualification that most employers recognise. CPP is good too and CTP (Certificate in training practice) is the training equivalent - each of these take about a year to study for. CIPD takes 3 years if you do it through flexible learning - 1 day a month at college plus essays / exams.

You can do CPP then CIPD but if you're in it for the long haul suggest you go straight to CIPD, esp. if you've worked in HR for a bit.

I did CIPD with malpas and they were really good - I think they're one of the market leaders and as they're not a college really were pretty understanding with late essays etc. (they needed to be )

Let me know if I can help you with business case etc. I have some handy stock phrases that we use at our place....

Hi - most others have said about the CIPD which really is the qualification to get. I managed to do mine at a local college evenings only, although not an ideal way to do it.
If your employers are pushing you to do this surely they will allow some time to do it? Even one day amonth would help! After all they will also benefit from you doing it!
