How easy would it be for dh (age 40) to retrain as a PE teacher?

He is 40, extremely fit, and partakes in loads of sports. He has a BA Hons degree in leisure studies.

Would he need to do a PGCE?

Could he get a job as a TA in PE dept? (if they exist)

And, he is worried he is too old......

Any advice an pointers greatly appreciated.

There are curriculum assistants in PE I think but I'm not sure how well they are paid.

40 is definitely not too old to retrain to the teaching profession - especially for secondary school teaching I think having some experience of life is really good as you then tend to be able to apply your subject much better but that is just IME

Not too old at all.

Ex bf mid 40's, only been teaching PE for the last 3 or 4 years. Was some kind of driver before that but doing lots of extra curricular football coaching.
