Career ideas for DH please

dh is in insurance - development underwriting - so a lot of golfing and lunching and account management. New boss and dh don't get on and dh is starting to hate work.
We both really want to move home to Scotland - but dh is finding it difficult to get job in insurance sector. He is perceived as being on a London salary and no-one will pay the money! Although he will take a cut - we can't afford too much of a cut.
One of his friends is in corporate hospitality and has offered him a fanchise. He is going to investigate this route - but I suggested that he opens his mind to other possibilities outside insurance and make a career change.
But what - any ideas?

What does he enjoy? Any hobbies? I too am looking for a career change shortly and although I was unsure what to do at first, I made a list of my hobbies and what I enjoy and came up with some possible career routes.
for example, I enjoy animals and know I can cope with them in any state so unqualified veterinary assistant jobs will be ideal.
Another is I love children, and again can cope with them and all the gooey, potentially yucky things that come with them so nanny work is an option.
I'm not an indoorsy type person so definately no office work for me!!!

his hobbies are golf, diy and gardening - so yes these could be an option - just gardening in Soctland is a bit hit or miss weather wise. We would hope to mabye do up a flat or 2 - but the market is so overpriced that it would be a difficult game to get into.
