Hello,

First before everyone jumps on my back! I have worked since I was 15yrs old and was laid off work 4 months ago this is the first and only time of being out of work. Im now 33. I was laid off work and not long after found out I was pregnant. At the same time my house (that I owned) was becoming a bit of a problem to run. It would not sell and may partner of 2 yrs lived 2 hours away. We wanted to live together he has a good job in a family buisness. The only solution was to rent my house at £100 loss. So 3 months later after trying to get a tennant we got one I moved in with my other half who also had to rent somehwere. Im looking for a job and have been since I knew I was going to live with my partner (about 2 months ago). I apply for jobs and show the job center what I have done. I applied for a big firm and put on my CV I was pregnant as I was showing and feel its not nice to lie about it. The lady rang me back and said your exactly what we want but im afriad there is nothing at this time but there may be a position in a few months for you. So I guess she ment once you have baby you could maybe have a job? So I was fine with this and explained this to the job center. I then saw a different man at the job center yesterday and he seemed pleased that he had found two jobs for me to apply for. Well I had applied for one of them already the other was not sutible and was for the big company I have applied for before. I tried to explain that Im a microbiologist not a chemist they are two differnet sectors but he was not interested he thought science was science. So I was forced to apply. I dont mind applying at all but did not want to look like a total idiot applying for a position I knew I could not do to the the big firm that said there may be a job coming up for you how stupid does that make me look? So I have applied and wrote a covering letter explaining my position. Does anyone have any suggestions for work as Im now 20weeks pregnant. Im looking into un paid work so I can do something?! Any help would be great!

Can you not work with your partner? Ask the family firm if they need someone.

Well, your JSA will run out after six months as your partner is working, so why don't you apply for any temporary work you are capable of doing? Pretty rare to be recruited into a new firm for a permanent position in the last few months of pregnancy I should think.

Thanks for the reply. The family buisness is not really that family like my partner works for his step father they are not that close and his mum does not work. They will not give me a job as I think my partner only had the job due to his mum being married to his step dad. I have applied for temp and perm jobs whatever comes up. I dont mind doing anything really. I have not had a invite to an interview yet. The JSA stops when im 28 weeks and then transfers to income support I think the man said at the job center he said Im not expected to sign on after 28 weeks, I understand as that is when you might fin work? Im still going to look for jobs though! I dont like this situation and I dont want to be in this situation again! I miss work and the social aspect of it as well. Thanks for your advise. Smile

You are been given duff advice by the guy in jobcentre.

Do they know you live with partner who works full time? You won't be entitled to income support.

Are you on contribution based jsa?

onadietcokebreak · 16/11/2010 11:49

When did you start claiming jsa?

Hi Scruffy, sorry to hear about your predicament, I'm going through something similar at the moment - trying to find a job whilst being pregnant, although I'm not as far along as you.

Have you tried something like party planning? I used to do Body Shop at Home and would thoroughly reccommend them. You can work your own hours, you get quite a lot of support and it will fill the hours until you and in the run-up to Christmas I made a mint! Might be worth it for a bit of cash until the job at the big company you mentioned becomes available?

Hello there thanks for the advise. I have been claming job seekers for about 9 weeks. I will contact body shop good idea I do love their products as well. And tis coming up to chirstmas thanks will see what I can find out. I did think of Avon but I know people that do it and dont make that much money. Will try and see cheers again! Looking to start my own cosmetics company so that might help?! Smile
