flexible hours confusion??? Help!

Hello,
I am a school teacher and have asked for a reduction to 3 days a week under a request for flexible hours when I return to work in december. My boss has written saying that this is 0.6 and could be split over whole week, ie 4 half days and one full.
This will not be acceptable to me at all, it wont help child care issues and as my work is an hours commute, the half days will practically be full days.
What are my rights??
Thanks.

You have the right to ask for flexible working, and for your employers to consider it (within given parameters). You asked, they considered, and they came up with an option that doesn't suit you. You can try to negotiate, but at the end of the day your right is to your old job back, with whatever hours/days you worked before.

Your employer does not have to take into account your childcare requirements.

It's fine for your employers to refuse your request, and it's positive for them to propose a compromise, however what you are entitled to is a proper explanation with business reasons why your original proposal is not possible. Have you had that?
