How often should you stay in touch while on mat leave?

Hoping someone can advise how often you are supposed to keep in touch while on mat leave? Had ds two months ago and haven't been in touch with work (including not even switching on blackberry) other than to call and let them know ds had been born. I have been loving just being a mum but I'm now nervous that I should have been responding to emails, calling my boss and generally showing an interest. Is there a protocol for this? I'm sure I'll get back into work when I go back just worried about jeopardising my future career by not keeping in touch now.

I didn't get in touch at all during my maternity leave until I was planning my return to work. I think it really depends on the company and the nature of your work. My sister went and had lunch with her colleagues now and then which helped her to stay "in the loop".

Depends on how you feel about your work and how close they are to you generally.
I did some keeping in touch days from about 3 months into my leave but took DD into work when she was born, texts etc.
It was good for me as I had quite bad PND which was anxiety related and it helped me to see that everything was ok and I was going to have a job to return to IYSWIM.
Enjoy your mat leave though, it will fly by!
