Applying for a job while on maternity leave

Hi,

I have just started maternity leave (am 31 weeks so starting it early) and have just also seen in paper the ideal job for me to apply for - similar to my current job in terms of job description and salary but much nearer to home, and part time.

I was planning to take a year of maternity leave so to return to work next October, though would be prepared to return to work next June instead. Is it unheard of/ridiculous to apply for the new job even though I wouldn't be able to start until June? It's the kind of industry where 3 months notice would be common but not nine months.

Will post this in employment too to maximise chances of people seeing it.

I would still apply, if youre the right candidate surely they will wait for you to finish mat leave.

I applied for 3 jobs whilst on mat leave and all 3 were very good about me not wanting to start until a certain date.

Although didnt get any of the jobs Hmm

By all means apply, but usually when recruiting a position it's because they need someone now, not in 9 months time. You might be lucky, it might not be time-critical, or there might be a dearth of suitable candidates, so it's worth a go but don't be surprised if they aren't prepared to wait (or say they are but offer the job to someone who is available).
