I wondered if anyone had some going back to work stories to share?

I had a chat today with a couple of close friends and we were talking about returning to work after a childcare break. I had recently applied for a job and on the day of my interview disaster struck and i was unable to attend. One of my wise and philosophical friends commented that it just wasn't meant to be. I turned to my other friend and asked her if she believed that fate had a part to play in such things.

She proceeded to recount how her first 'proper' job interview after being a SAHM was at a police station (at this point i laughed out loud because i could never envisage her in such a setting). Anyway, she told us that on the way to the interview she trod in a huge dog turd and couln't get all off her shoe. she bravely went ahead with the ordeal and at the end of the interview apologised for the terrible smell and unsurprisingly did not get the gig. A week later her dream job came up and she got it and stayed there for 13 years.

Now i'm not sure if this was fate, bad luck or just a plain old fashioned dog shit nightmare. But what do you think and have you any more stories along this vein? Smile

I don't believe in fate I'm afraid, but I do believe in actions leading to scary reactions.

Five years ago I was so upset about a recent break up that I forgot to show up to a blind date.

I rearranged it to the following night, and mistakenly thought my now husband, who was innocently having a drink, was my date. I marched up to (a bewildered) him and said hello and here I am now looking after our six month old baby.

If I think too much about how nearly this all did not happen my brain hurts!
