Anyone want to join me in an MSN mutual ass kicking mission? Help me work!

Thandeka · 27/09/2010 10:27

Nargh I have a million and three things to do- both workwise (am freelancer) and houseworkwise.

I have always found having an MSN asskicker really helps. Ie. both of you say right- I am going to do XYZ by ABC and then you both check back at the appointed time. It really works except my usual MSN asskicker is never online anymore. So of course I get distracted into the lure of mumsnet (ahem but my excuse right now is I am posting for asskicking help!).

So anyone want some mutual asskicking today?

sigh well got waylaid into something I had to do for a training next week which now means I have 3.5 hours to do as much as i can My lovely DH has just brought me a ham sandwich to my desk so lunch isn't an issue anymore at least!

Yuk yuk to accounts- I haven't dared start on my tax return yet but really really need to.

nomedoit- does that mean you are not in UK if you got up at 12!? Or a long lie in with a late school start for your DD.

Right back to it. Sigh.

I am in the USA - 5 hours behind you. Just did my accounts, not as bad as I thought. One of the worst things for me is I have to do a full US tax return and a UK return!

Still haven't cleaned the bathroom...

Thandeka · 06/10/2010 19:13

Yippeeee I finished it! Well at draft stage anyway- has gone off to the bosses for first draft comments etc. Slightly later than planned but hey ho. Now I have two days "off" but still have lots to do so will probably come and back and post my lists- phew am glad I started this thread!

Well done thandeka - enjoy your days off!

I'm on a training course for a charity volunteer thing 'til 2.30 today then in-laws coming over after school so no work for me today. Going to do some ironing and bake a cake later though Grin

Tomorrow i plan to sort out my blogsite, twitter profile etc and contact some old colleagues to see if i can drum up some new work...

Hope you got the accounts sorted out nome - any luck with your testimonials? I'd love to see your website if you fancy doing a link?

nomedoit · 07/10/2010 12:08

Well I have one testimonial but I'm going to follow your suggestion Beachy and offer to write them for people. Feel much better now the accounts are sorted and I know where I am financially.

Today I am finalising my logo and doing a first draft of the new website content...

JustBeachy · 08/10/2010 08:10

Today I will:

Go for a run
Proof read two documents
Draft and send a "give me some work" email to old contacts
Consider what to do with my website/social media stuff
Do ironing

That's plenty for a friday methinks!

Hope your site is going well nome

Thandeka · 08/10/2010 09:55

woo hoo scheme of work virtually all approved- some minor amends but will do them monday!

Today I dont know what I am doing as FiL over from Dubai and there was talk of lunch but I have a giant pile of housework to do as well as
organise a role play teaching pack. Am not even dressed yet.

All your talk of websites/social media is getting me thinking about finding more work - my subject is a bit niche and with the cuts things will be interesting so I think I need to expand/diversify- maybe I need to muse on that a bit more.....

nomedoit · 08/10/2010 12:09

Yes, Friday's are always a bit of a mish-mash for me. And we have a wedding to go to tomorrow so I seem to be bogged down in 101 little jobs for that...

I'm going to:

1.work on the website content today
2.approach a couple more people for testimonials
3.hoover the house
4.do a food shop

nomedoit · 08/10/2010 14:37

Thandeka by the way, I rarely get dressed before noon! I know the standard advice is to get dressed as if you were going to work but I've never done that and I've had ten very productive self-employed years working in my pyjamas...

Thandeka · 11/10/2010 09:22

right dressed and at my desk ready to go.

Today I need to:

Make revisions to the scheme of work to finish it off.

Edit the role playing activity for a training next week

Book up a load of house viewings tommorrow.

Try not to get distracted into my Ebay addiction.

Sigh and need to start my Tax return.
Yuk!

JustBeachy · 11/10/2010 10:46

Get to it thandeka !!

I need to hoover my house,
book some quotes from removal men and basically do all the stuff i said i was going to do on Friday! Was not a very productive day i'll admit!

nomedoit · 11/10/2010 12:07

Beachy, I now have FOUR testimonials all because I followed your suggestion of writing them! Waiting on another two.

Going to do a first draft of all the website copy today and finalise my logo design/letterhead.

Good luck today, ladies!

JustBeachy · 11/10/2010 12:22

Yay nome told you they were just lazy busy Wink

Thandeka · 13/10/2010 09:56

Right guys, monday was a work washout for me- so tsk to me.

Today I have to do a monday and wednesday's worth of work in today on next to no sleep after a shocking night with 8month old DD. Sigh.

I made inroads in my tax return at least and have decided to do it online to give me some breathing space on it.

Today I am mainly working on the Scheme of work aiming to get it finished and emailed by end of day then if time I need to be prepping the training I am doing on monday.

OP posts:
nomedoit · 13/10/2010 11:41

Hi Thandeka and Beachy. I do my tax return online, it is super-easy. Sorry to hear about your bad night, Thandeka: I am hopeless when I haven't had enough sleep.

Right. Today I am going to:

  1. Finish the website content
  2. Email it to the web designer
  3. Pay the graphic designer for the logo
  4. Go and get my car taxed (have to do that in person over here)

I have this pile on our bedroom floor now: ironing, stuff from the wedding we went to; books; stuff I have no idea where to put. Will deal with that tomorrow...

JustBeachy · 13/10/2010 11:42

Well I need to revise copy and layout on a promo leaflet today. Shouldn't be too taxing hopefully! And i'm still trying to get a removals quote - grr.

Good luck today thandeka Coffee is your friend!

TondelayoSchwarzkopf · 13/10/2010 14:33

Hello everyone - sorry to gatecrash. I'm new to the world of freelancing (well at the moment freefalling Smile) and miss the office banter and someone to kick my butt. May I take a seat?

JustBeachy you have given some brilliant advice - what free website builder would you recommend?

JustBeachy · 13/10/2010 15:33

Hi tonderlay and welcome Smile

I don't know alot about website builders but DH is a guru and he told me to use Wordpress for my site so it must be OK Confused

I am of the "pre-online necessity" marketing school and am trying to get to grips with the bits that I haven't done before, with varying degrees of success!

JustBeachy · 14/10/2010 06:53

WellI did my leaflet, but I didn't get around to it 'til after the kids went to bed so it was a cinderella night (again!)

Not working as such today - on a course most of the day and have visitors this afternoon.

Hope it's going well for everyone this week!

nomedoit · 14/10/2010 12:43

Hi Tond. I have done two websites and it might be worth getting some freelance person to help you out a bit. The real problem with websites today is getting found on the Internet. If you just want yours as a showcase it's not so important - but if you hope to get business through your website then you need to be aware of SEO (search engine optimization) which is how sites like Google rank your website.

JustBeachy · 15/10/2010 07:25

Workwise today I need to write a direct emailer and set up a meeting.

In other news I need to go to the supermarket hoover and dust the living room and do an exercise DVD.

All of the above MUST be done by 12 noon as I have a workshop this afternoon with my DS's ABA team.

Best get on with it!!

JustBeachy · 15/10/2010 08:28

OK hoover and dust done, now school run then straight to shops, home, DVD and shower then emailer...busy busy!

JustBeachy · 15/10/2010 11:23

All done! With 30mins to spare! This thread is very motivating (even if i'm the only one using it at the time!!) Grin

nomedoit · 15/10/2010 11:55

Hello Ladies I'm taking the day off... The website is being redesigned and my logo's done. Next week I'm going to get started on a networking and pitching strategy. When I say take the day off, I should add that the house looks like it's been burgled and needs some urgent attention.

Yes, this thread has really helped me. For one thing, I realize I am not the only self-employed person sitting in a bedroom trying to make a living.

Beachy I'm going to make initial contact via email, too. How much do you say and how do you follow up?
