Compassionate leave

Does yours cover attending a sibling, sibling in law, niece/nephew, aunt/uncle, cousin, grandparent, grandparent in law or parent in law's funeral?

Ah, a thread about a thread! No. Only parents or spouse. You might manage it for a sibling, as well - it depends on your boss.

Oddly (and this is not about compassionate leave), my employer required me to take annual leave last year when I was snowed in and couldn't get to work, but this year, those who were on holiday and got stranded by the volcanic ash cloud, were allowed special leave on full pay.

From memory, I think ours allows for spouses, siblings, parents and loco parents. Doesnt extend to in-laws or nieces etc.

I don't even know what mine is!

Are loco parents step parents, in laws or both?

Ours isn't really for funerals, but to give the person time to cope with the death of a "close relative" - but its up to the line manager how close would count. I think they'd be more likely to be generous for a siblings funeral than for more distant relatives, though if you are the one making the arrangements it usually convinces them of the closeness, whatever the actual relationship.

I think the definition they use for loco parent is the person you lived with growing up so no inlaws.

Each company has its own policy though, theres no automatic right I dont think.

Are loco parents mad?

Or steam trains?
