Voluntary Redundancy

veyron · 23/09/2010 11:29

I am currently on maternity leave and I intend to take 6 months (am 2 weeks in)

I work in the public sector and received an email yesterday from a colleague regarding the new plans and ideas for saving money, one of which is voluntary redundancy. As I am not planning on returning to my existing job when I return, would it be worth me asking about this?

TIA

Veyron, it's not clear from you post whether voluntary redundancy is on offer or whether it's just an idea being considered by management?

Your employer has a duty to treat you no less favourably than an employee who is at work so they must consider you and your colleagues when deciding on the offer of vol redundancy.

If I was you I would contact your manager and ask him/ her to keep you regularly updated on any plans and changes that might affect you.

It's not on offer yet, they are trying to gauge interest as to who would be interested.
