Do I have to tell my employers about PND?

I am due to go back to work in a few weeks. I work as a response Police Officer (revealing this is why I have name changed)I have to drive a response Police car and work shifts.

I have been diagnosed by my GP as having PND. I was prescribed one set of antidepressants but I had an allergic reaction. I have recently been prescribed some more antidepressants which can have a mild sedative effect. They haven't made me sleepy yet.

Do I need to tell my employers? If I change antidepressants to one which isn't a sedative would I have to tell them?

Anyone with any experience of this?

If you are driving and your medication could affect it then yes. Otherwise as long as you are well enough to be at work then I imagine that's the key thing. Why not ask your GP what they think?

In any case I doubt you are the first police officer to have depression and you definitely won't be the last. As such it is something that they will have seen before.
