deadline for job app - missed by 2 hours - should I do anything?

I applied for a job a week or so ago. sent it off (by email) at 7 pm on deadline day.I checked the job description and application to see if there was a time on it and there wasn;t - so I assumed midnight.

today I looked at the website to see when I might expect to hear anything.

to my utter horror, buried in a generic faq document - not tied to this particular job app - and described as answers that "might" help you - not at all as essential reading - it says that they accept applications upto 5pm on deadline day.

shit shit shit.

do I do anything? on the one hand they might just scoop up all the emails the next morning, and not take any notice of the time (in which case I don;t want to draw attention to it), on teh other hand I think this should have been made clearer. I am gutted. completely gutted as I'm a sticker for such things and this is completely out of character.

I suppose I could just email to ask if they received it - as they don't automatically send acknowledgements

Is it worth checking and pleading a temporary computer glitch at home that prevented the sending of the email?

You can phone and ask about your application - which is never a bad idea. Just don't start with "i missed the deadline ..... ". If you ask when they are interviewing and if they have a short list yet and re-affirm your interest in the role that is good. Drawing attention to you application being late is bad :)
