SAHM and NI contributions (help please?)

Ok. Friend works part time and has just been told she should have been paying her own NI contributions as she doesn't have it paid by her employer. She then was told by someone at CAB that they have problems with SAHM's not paying their NI contributions then in the future they are not entitled to lots of things and they don't get a state pension!

Is any of this true? I am currently SAHM and have been for last 2 years but thought because we get Child Benefit then my NI contributions are paid by the govt...

I have no idea about any of this stuff and am scared that I should be declaring I am SAHM and finding out if I should be paying anything at the moment?

Thanks for any advice

Hi, you are right in thinking that your child benefit covers your NI contributions. I am also SAHM and I'm sure I read it in the back of a leaflet they sent me! Anyway, just found this:

Thanks. Looks like I'm ok until DS is 12 then... Hopefully I will have a job by then though! I'm just feeling a bit guilty about the whole being a SAHM thing AGAIN!
