Tearful at work

I have gone back to work last month after being a stay at ome mum for 4 years. Yesterday, When I got a call saying my 4 yr old was not well and wanted me....I couldnt help bursting into tears, which, unfortunately was in my manager's presence. I found it highly embarassing....but couldnt stop fo a while. Has any one had a similar experience? I am not a person to cry easily on other occassions.

I've had several tearful moments at work (male dominated workplace so not the most understanding of colleagues!). You must feel torn - i know i did - between being a mother and being an employee. Dont beat yourself up about it, its a perfectly normal reaction. Is the little one ok now? X

Does your manager have children. If he/she does they will probably understand. Dont give it another thought. I think most people would perfectly well understand your reaction. Especially in such early days.

Thanks Mandymoo, my boy is allright now. My manager was very very good abt it. I'll get better at handling this with time,I guess. Comforting to know that I didnt really 'over react'. Wish we didnt have to make such difficult choices.
