Getting a new job whilst on maternity leave

I am on maternity leave until December and have applied for a job with another organisation and got an interview - do I need to mention that I'm on maternity leave?

If I am successful is there anything else I need to think about/be aware of?

If your current employer gives you maternity pay, you may have to pay it back if you don't return to that employer. Or you may need to return for a minimum period in order to avoid paying it back. Check your employer's maternity policy.

In terms of the new job - they might ask you something like "what's your notice period" or "if we offer you the job, how soon can you start" and so you will need an answer prepared. Which might not include "I'm on maternity leave" but could simply be "I could start on 1 December".

Good luck with the interview!

Thanks Wigeon.

In a fit of organisation, I did manage to check my maternity policy before I applied for the job and as I'm about to move into the accrued annual leave bit of the maternity leave, my HR dept have said I'll be ok as it would count towards my notice period.

Good point on the notice period/start date, will add it to my list of questions to prepare for
