Tax/ national insurance/ pension/ union subs all go at the moment. Which do I still pay when I'm on stat pay?

I have still been paying everything on SMP.

SMP is subject to tax and NI although for most people they don't get taxed a lot if at all because of the low amount.

You will still need to make pension contributions however they will be based on the lower amount you are receiving - so the same percentage not the same amount.

If you don't mind coming out of the union, depending on the rules of membership I expect you could come out for the duration of your maternity leave to avoid paying the subs.

Thanks. Daren't stop union as council is now rushing single status and insisting it's nothing to do with budget cuts ...
