I used to work in insurance before i had ds. I reeally didn't like it and it wasn't the right career for me.

Now ds is at school i'm thinking of returning to work but have no idea what to do!

I don't want something really "technical", like the talking side of things, not afraid to call or meet people.

Any ideas?

ok let's explore this a bit.

What did you like about working in insurance? What didn't you like?

What are you interested in?

Are you interested in retail? Would you rather be in an office environment? How about something creative?

BikeRunSki · 02/09/2010 21:41

Some kind of customer services role.

Well i didn't like much about insurance tbh :(. I kind of fell into it, did my exams and worked my way up and then needed the money so a career change was out of the question at the time.

I quite liked the sales part of it, but hated all the detail of issuing policies and in depth calculations and (to me ridiculous) rules.

I'm interested in food, selling (sell on ebay), fashion, and people (how they think and why)In some ways would like an office environment (in the pas found it depends alot on what th eother people are like!) but working at home is very appealing too.

Have you considered direct selling? I am an Usborne Books Organiser and it's a great job :) It has all the meeting and talking to people, you get to run your own business, work as much or little as you want and you get the money straight away when you sell the books.

If you're interested have a look at my website or email me at [email protected]

Otherwise, if you think books aren't for you there are lots of other opportunities like Pampered Chef maybe since you like food, or Boden since you like fashion?

I might be wrong - I thought they did because you hear of people having Boden parties, but I've never been to one so can't promise!

Do drop me a line if you have any questions about Usborne - I'm always happy to chat about it :)

I have licensed out my kids cookery club - I started it 4 years ago so I could do the school run when it arrived!

Let me know if you'd like more details x

Marketing? Maybe look for an entry-level position in a marketing dept, esp in a fashion or food company?

greenmum1 · 14/09/2010 16:36

I work for Wikaniko (we can eco) selling a fab range of products (cleaning, make-up, skincare etc) that are eco friendly I choose my own hours to work, online training (no need to leave the kids) 12 routes to market, including catalogue drops, fairs, party plan great if you love talking to people. the commission is 33-45% much greater than some other direct selling companies. No targets before you earn that either and no territories if you would like a information pack, please message me your email address for an information pack :-)
