Hello,

I've recently found out I'm expecting (7 weeks gone- yay!) and this is my first post on mumsnet. I'm currently a full time speech and language therapist. After maternity leave I would really like to go part time, however I'm worried that we won't be able to afford this. My partner is a special needs assistant and we have a mortgage to pay... I would really like to hear from other mums who supplement their income with some evening work and if so what? I'm considering doing a manicure and pedicure evening course so that I could go out to people's homes in the evening and be with my new arrival during the day. I know this is quite early to be thinking about this but if I need to retrain it should probably start soon. I would really like to hear how other mums cope,
thanks.

How about going freelance with your Sp&L therapy? Lots of families are frustrated with the wait for NHS referral and sessions. Alternatively how about teaching babysigning? I left my teaching job and took on a franchise doing this. You can take your baby with you! There are a few companies available you can join as a franchisee. Do a web search and some should come up.
