Interview next week, help?

I have an interview next week for a part time accounts / payroll job. On paper it sounds like an excellent opportunity. The problem is that I am not very good at selling myself in an interview situation and would like some advice on how best to do this? I am quite shy and modest about my skills and abilites. I answer the technical questions quite well when it is specific to duties etc but fail at the open ended personality traits type questions. How do you answer a quesion like 'tell me about yourself? It is so open ended I don't know where to begin. ANy help appreciated.

I always answer that question with "what do you want to know?"

You are right, it is a very open ended question and therefore good interviewers don't ask it. Ask them to be more specific - do they want you to describe your whole career, or just the highlights? Don't be afraid to ask for clarification of vague questions like that.
