No jobs locally and can't afford to relocate

age old problem! dh is out of work. has been job-hunting for a long time now, but only just started claiming JSA. the lucky man gets to humiliate himself for £10pw. there are no jobs around here. certainly none in his field (engineering purchasing) we cant afford to retrain him (he has already done a degree and it hasnt helped) and all the jobs that he could do are too far/expensive for him to commute and we cant afford to relocate to improve his chances of getting a job. its so frustrating.

i dont want another benefit-bashing thread (its not nice to be in this position) but just wanted a moan/practical advice!

Self-employment somehow? How about you? Are you able to work at all yourself?

Are you qualified to do anything?
