I am STILL having ref erence problems and I think employer is getting fed up.

Background, back in June, I got offered a job at a hospital. I am a lone parent and haven't worked since I split with my ex in 2006.

I listed 2 ref's, one was a friend and she was just a character ref, and the other was a bloke I worked with in my last employment, who had agreed to be ref for me.

All fine, until he then says he isn't allowed to do it anymore as all ref's have to be done by head office. Head office send one to the hospital, and they say it's not detailed enough and they want a proer ref from him.

I struggled to get hold of him, but eventually did and he eventually said he could do it. I sent him the addy and that was that. Then about a week later he says he cant remember if he put a stamp on the letter , can he have the address again, so I give it to him.

This was about 2 weeks ago and HR have just rung to say everything is ready except that they still haven't recieved my ref from him and without it they can't give me a start date.

I don't know what else to do, I really don't. I have just txt him asking if he did send it, but i'll be lucky if he replies at all. If I ring then I don't think he will answer.

So now what ? I think I am going to lose this job before I have even started.

Can the HR dept not chase him ?

They asked me to do it Liz.

It might be sorted now. I txt him and he replied saying he had definitely sent it. I asked him if he could do it again, but this time leave it at the desk in the store and i'd fetch it and take it to the hospital myself.

He agreed, said he'd saved it on the computer at work and he'd print another one off and leave it for me to collect.

So fingers crossed it should be done. I can take it in to the hospital on Wednesday and then hopefully they can give me a start date.
