is there a law about when you have to inform your employers you're pregnant?

The person above me in the hierarchy at work has just handed in his notice. I should be in with an excellent chance of getting the job - but i'm pregnant. I know there is no way on earth my boss will promote me if he knows. I'm four months and not showing yet. I've looked at our company handbook and it's not specific on this issue, though it does say that i need to give them my MAT B form "15 weeks before the expected date of birth" at the very latest. There's no way i'd be able to keep it quiet beyond then anyway.
I rarely work in the office so it's realistic for me to hide it for quite a while more, I think. Just interested in what the law has to say about this. Does anyone know?
I would be incensed not to get the job because of my pregnancy, but of course would never be able to prove it.

I think that is the legal requirement, that you must give your employers notice by 15 weeks before your expected due date

hope you will still try for the promotion

You don't have to say anything until you are 25 weeks as per your staff handbook. For health and safety reasons it is better to mention it sooner, but you would be well within your rights to stay quiet for a bit longer.

thanks. if this issue hadn't come up i'd be telling them now, but i will leave it until the job vacancy is resolved, or 25 weeks, whichever is sooner. it could involve a lot of baggy clothes/avoiding the office!
such a shame that this is still the reality for working women...
