I'm starting to update my cv and not sure how to describe the last few years, basically I worked in marketing for 10 years, fell pg, moved out of london while on maternity leave and after a year off found a part time local authority job near home as a marketing assisstant. I hated it, the work was ok but the people were awful - we weren't allowed to make tea for anyone but ourselves as it 'took too much time' etc etc qnd if I'm honest, I struggled with having no responsibility having previously worked at management level. Anyway, after about 9 months I found another job - completely different - working with people with disabilities, still in same local authority so same employer overall. Am now on maternity leave with ds2, had been in tha last job 10 months before I went on mat leave. With 2 kids in nursery if I go back, I really need to find a job in marketing again. I love my current job but the pay is dreadful. So basically when I come to apply for new jobs, I will have been out of a senior marketing role for nearly 3 years and I'm not sure how I will describe/explain my most recent 2 jobs, particularly as I didn't last in the first one for very long and also because I then moved into something completely different.

I had kind of planned a career move into social care, hence the current job but it's just not financially viable. I can't really say that can I? Sounds like I only want to go back to my career for cash, which isnn't entirely true because I have sometimes, fleetingly almost missed it.

God how long winded? In a nutshell, i had a management career, gave it up for an admin job i hated, then a social care job, now want to go back into management because of finances, how the hell do I describe the last few years on my cv when i have flitted between jobs completely unrelated to my 'career'??

Have you thought about transferable skills? Often you have skills that employers want even if it wasn't gained through a conventional career path.

Here's a link to a free and quick transferable skills assessment: bit.ly/dBskus

Perhaps you could use the results to consider more skills for your CV?

Good Luck!
