Ring fenced competition whilst on maternity leave

Hi, apologies if this has been done to death but I would like some advice on my particular situation.

I am currently on a year's maternity leave, which is due to come to an end towards the end of September 2010. My work is undergoing a restructure and I received a letter today, saying that my current role will no longer exist, but I have been matched to a role for which there is ring fenced competition.

Reading the other threads on here, I thought that as I am on maternity leave, I would have been matched to the role without having to apply, go for interviews etc, or is this not the case?

There are 4 posts for the role I have been matched to and probably around 6-15 people who have been matched to it.

TIA

You must be offered any suitable vacancy that exists. Link here with reference on.

So yes, I think you should be given it automatically because of the Mat leave.

Maybe you are the ring fence competition

Worth noting they can still make you attend interviews but they must do that to make sure the job is suitable for you not to see if you should get the job IYSWIM.

Thanks to you both for responding.

I have contacted my HR department and so has my line manager but I have not yet heard anything back. I will contact them again quoting some of the text from the link you gave moaning

A friend of mine found out that there are around 8 people who have been matched to this role, and that there are 4 posts.

I got exactly the same letter as the rest of my colleagues did and there was no mention of my being on maternity leave in the letter.
