I am peeing myself at the thought of going back to work (it is a possibility). How hard it it? Will I remember how to do anything (the job is pretty much self-directed)? oh lord, I am very nervouse about this!

I've just done exactly that (gone back after 6 years). I was so nervous I was virtually throwing up on the first morning - and this was only a part time 1 year contract job. Anyway by the end of the first day I was fine. Obviously after a long stint away there are going to be gaps in your knowledge but how crucial that is would depend on your field really, I haven't been badly caught out yet .

If you have an opportunity and feel now is the right time in terms of your DC, I would go for it because the thought of going back is only going to be more and more daunting as the years away stack up. Good luck.

I have done the job before - not rocket science - but have always had a great boss to bounce ideas off (and tell me what to do sometimes) and staff who have been hardworking and very knowledgable. I will be working on my own, reporting into a board of big bosses. No pressure there then!

deep breaths..
