Woolly Hugs: Anyone still here, who crocheted squares or donated wool?

Just that really, is anyone still about?

I’m under a different name now, but received the most beautiful blanket after DD died.

It is still going strong a decade later and still brings me immense comfort.

I just popped it in the wash, and wanted to say thank you to those who cared. 💐

That's lovely to hear. There is a Woolly Hugs board. I'll see if I can find a link for you.

elephantoverthehill · 11/03/2025 17:57

It's in Body and Soul. Perhaps ask to have your post moved there😀

I’ve reported myself and asked for it to be moved. Thanks @elephantoverthehill 💖

Aw, that’s lovely to hear, that you still use and get comfort from your blanket. I’ve contributed to many of the woolly hugs over the years. This board seems very quiet but Woolly hugs has an active group on Facebook. I will try and tag @KnottyAndPistey who organise the woolly hugs in the hope they will see your post.

KnottyAndPistey · 24/04/2025 10:10

We are still here!

That is so lovely to hear my love, so glad it brings you comfort xx

Hi! Haven’t been on MN much in quite a few years, but crocheted squares. Still got some which didn’t didn’t make it into an envelope… is anyone still coordinating, joining, managing WH any more? Such a lovely thing to do. Made me start crocheting, taught me so much here, haven’t really stopped crocheting since. In fact, came to MN to seek advice about a prob I’m having with Sophie’s World right now! Shall post sep thread for that….

lovely to see you Knotty, remember you well!

ItsaMOBone · 02/01/2026 00:32

I also received one and I don’t forget. My baby was very ill and it was so incredibly touching.

Jux · 02/01/2026 16:08

I started because of the wondrous Zombie; it’s so nice to hear that what she started such a long time ago can still give pleasure to early recipients and that it’s still going - albeit on FB which I have problems using! I’ll try to make my way there….

EnchantedDays · 02/01/2026 16:13

I’ve been crocheting for WH since the early days on here (different names too), it’s so lovely to hear that the blankets are treasured like this Flowers

FollowSpot · 02/01/2026 16:18

OP - I am so sorry you lost your dd and glad the blanket gives you some comfort.

I knitted a square for the very first MN Blanket (before we had Woolly Hugs here) for a poster called Droile whose ds was being treated for a brain tumour.

I often think of her and wonder how she is. And whether the treatment for her darling boy was successful.

Kangarude · 02/01/2026 16:27

I cannot knit or crochet but I sent donations a couple of times for wool. It was so moving seeing the pictures of the beautiful squares that were made, and the blankets that were made. Such a labour of love.

bookbook · 22/01/2026 13:55

I have just seen this ! Yes , Woolly Hugs is still going strong , but it is mostly fb based - but there is a website too . I help make and construct the blankets still . It is so lovely to know that what we achieve together is so much appreciated

I still have loads of of the SSDK in my ‘wall of wool’, but loads of other yarns too. When I’ve finished my current project I’ll be happy to go back to make more squares for people.

Joiners, haven’t really worked out in my head how to join squares,t is it hard?

I found it hard the first time but it was a WH refugee blanket with a mix of yarns and the size of the squares was a bit random to say the least. The SSDK ones are definitely easier but it's still a bit of a learning curve when it's a mix of 6 and 12" squares and knit/crochet. But incredibly rewarding, I'd definitely encourage you to have a go. Quite often WH have fairly long deadlines on them to take the pressure off.

Pancakeflipper · 22/01/2026 21:52

It is lovely to hear the blankets are still with you. Xxx

I used to knit a few squares. I could only knit 3 designs (and that includes totally plain). I was always grateful to those who donated monies to be spent on wool.

The organisation of it grew and I was always so impressed. Great team work. And so much love for those going through hell.

Oblivionnnnn · 22/01/2026 21:57

I can’t crochet for the life of me but I bought wool for some people way back. It’s lovely that you still treasure your blanket. Such a nice tradition.

jux, I remember when you first started.

I've name changed & can't crochet (not sure if that's going to be 'at the moment' or 'anymore', I suspect 'anymore' but not ready to face it & will need to give K&P advance warning to make some space for a large yarn donation, or may just send it to bookbook to turn into her fabulous squares!

@RogersOrganismicProcess I did squares for several blankets & a decade ago I was probably at my mist productive, I hope one of mine is enjoying life at your house ! Still bringing you some comfort 😍

I don't know how to phrase what I want to say with love, but I hope you're doing ok 😍. I'm not at all religious! But I do love churches & still light candles for several MN children we made blankets for (well their families).. I expect your DD is one of those 🥰

Lovey to 'see' you too! I've name changed, but we sat together at a hug gathering one time xx

Oh goodness , lovely to "see' some people I recognise on here . How are you @JanuaryJasmine , I know things were tricky .
@Jux we all start somewhere with construction - usually full of trepidation ! Loads of help available if you need 😊

Well I'm not sure if I've got the right Woollyhugger, but I do now have a campervan!

A year in, things are different, but not where I'd hoped they'd be & in several ways worse. It's crap, but I try to remember it coukd have been a lot worse. Still haven't tried to crochet (or knit) I think until I do I can keep holding onto 'I might be able to' , once I try & cant it'll be another thing I can't do anymore 🥲

Well not sure I'm the one you're thinking of but we did talk about you getting. Camper van & being 'over here' more?!

I knitted some squares back in the day - for Zombie’s blanket I recall! - which weren’t very good so from then ijust donated to purchase wool for the more talented. The love knitted into these blankets is amazing - such a beautiful way to honor our fellow MN’ers.

TeamToeBeans · 23/01/2026 07:49

I knitted and crocheted squares for several blankets, a few years ago now. I had a few years away from MN, but I’m back on it more regularly now. I’d love to get involved again and contribute more squares. I’ll find the facebook group. It’s lovely to hear that the blankets help and bring comfort.
