Very sad news we are afraid, the wonderful Mumsnetter LakieLady’s fabulous partner has died suddenly and shockingly due to coronary thrombosis. There are no words, we are incredibly sorry that life has been so cruel. She is very much in our hearts and thoughts and we send so much love Thanks

We were so glad when she accepted our offer of a woolly hug, she will be able to wrap herself in it and know it comes full of love from so many. So we are coming with a request for your help, either crafting or donating Thanks

Beautiful words from lovely Lakie…
My partner's name was Charlie. He loved the countryside, and wildlife. He was thrilled to bits last summer, when one of our resident robins got so tame that it settled, briefly, on his shoulder when he stopped for a moment while gardening. We live in the South Downs national park, and he would stand for ages looking at the view of the downs from our window, and loved to see the rolling hills, especially on sunny blue-sky days. He was born in 1960, and died last November.

From this we have devised our colour palette, so the main colours…
Countryside greens
Blue sky blues
Taupes
Purples

Then for accents, embellishments and details…
Cream, but please one of the following - Debbie Bliss Rialto DK 02 ecru, Jenny Watson Pure Merino DK WM4 cream, or Drops Merino 01 off white
Yellow, this one please.. Drops merino extra fine DK no 24 ‘light yellow’
Red, but one of these two please, Drops Merino Extra Fine 11 Red, or Jenny Watson Pure Merino DK WM6 ‘Ruby’ please
Brown
Oranges

How we’d love to see a little flock of robins for Charlie on this blanket. Wouldn’t that be wonderful. I’m away asap to make one.

The Yarn we will be Using….
Debbie Bliss Rialto DK ( can only be bought from Love Crafts)
Drops Merino Extra Fine DK
Jenny Watson Pure Merino DK
Katia Merino 100% DK
King Cole Luxury Merino DK Currently on sale at Wise Badger
Sublime Extra Fine Merino Wool DK Currently on sale on at Black Sheep Wools

Just from the brands listed please because we know they combine for wash and wear. If you still have any of our wools that have been discontinued - Artesano Superwash Merino DK, Debbie Bliss Cashmerino DK or James C. Brett Pure Merino DK in your stash, please do use them.

Our listed yarns are all easily available online - Try Wool Warehouse, Wise Badger,Laughing Hens, Love Crafts, Black Sheep Wools, Lady Sew and Sew Knits

Important crafting info
Squares to be six inches, using 4mm needles or hook. Please knot off VERY carefully when finishing or changing colour and sew your ends in, thank you! No blocking please, makes it much easier to join squares.

Simple or complex, made by beginner or expert, we genuinely welcome them all. It really is the love and thought that counts.

When posting, it will be the Teddington address, please make sure you add your name and who the squares are for, and if you would like to include a card for LakieLady please do, we will pass it on.

Thank you so much lovely Woolly crew. Thanks

I'm so touched that I am quite lost for words, and am crying tears of pure love. Thank you all, so, so much. The kindness of this means so much, and is all the more moving coming from people who don't know us. My love and gratitude to all of you.

Lovely LakieLady we are thinking of you all, sending love and strength.

Remembering Charlie xxxxx

@KnottyAndPistey
How odd! I just checked and I haven't accidentally blocked you, so at least it isn't my fault...
(Your other messages came through, so it must just be replies.)

@Iwantacampervan yarn for you is coming via us and Wool Warehouse, struggled to find a taupe, see what you think of the one we have included, it's a kind of stone, but I've never seen it for real, just pics online

Also Wool Warehouse are understandably creaking due to covid and increased demand - they estimate a 6 - 8 day delay in posting, but it will arrive!

Only one colour, so a bit of a stealth robin in relief - do you think this will do, or should I try and outline it in another colour?
