Loose magic rings are ruining my blanket 😣

I am doing a blanket that is a variation in granny squares, starts with a magic ring and then 12dc as the centre of each flower. It's been a slow grower and I've added to it over 18 months but I've noticed some of the older squares are opening up because the magic ring has become loose. What am i doing wrong? I've got to go into some of them and rethread the center to pull it tight again 😢

I use this method and it seems to keep it really secure- m.youtube.com/watch?v=5ZQv-dH6htE

If you can find the end, you can slip stitch it to another stich at the back and secure it firmly that way. Better to start with a chain of three or four than a magic ring.
