Just devastating. Like many we just couldn’t take it in that Oldsilver had died so suddenly and unexpectedly from a heart attack in April. Utterly shocking. Words really do fail, we are just so very sorry life has been so cruel to her and truly devastating for her DH, young son, family and friends. She was a total legend here on Mumsnet, posting on many boards, but her true love was with the Nobdies, and they too will miss her terribly.

We are so pleased to say that her DH has accepted our offer of a Woolly Hug, and we hope that he and their son will feel our love and support and that the blanket may give whatever comfort it can to them.

There is a thread here if you would like to post…

Oldsilver was devoted to her husband (P) and son (D) – their initials would be great. The initial ‘H’ is also significant for her. As well as her family, her great loves were her garden and veg patch, and a tortoise called Brian. She also loved elephants, dragons, biscuits, cider, ferrero rocher, cider, 1980s pop and fashion (!).

She adored flowers, and her favourite colours were blue and purple – any bold colours but NOT PINK!

A favourite photo of her, which her DH has allowed us to post, is this one of her going to a formal do dressed as a bottle of Hooch. She had the most brilliant sense of humour

She was very into stationery and kept meticulous lists and records. On MN she was the keeper of all the Nobdie archives, and instigator of many evenings listening to the Wurzels. Her name was inspired by the silver rings she wore.

Thanks

What an amazing woman. How lucky we were to know her. We want to make her Woolly Hug a real tribute and celebration, please join us?

May I ask a numpty question - how many balls should I order? I'm never sure what to go for and find the whole world of wool to be somewhat confusing...

Report
TheWoollybacksWife · 06/05/2019 13:27

MrsM 2 balls will easily make 3 to 4 squares depending on patterns and whether you/your crafter are knitting or crocheting.

Thank you Woolly.

I might've got a bit carried away on previous ones! Sorry folks.

Have a major expenditure coming up so will have to cut down a bit anyway. Will order now.

I just provide some wool: it's others that are so incredibly generous with their time, effort and skill. I remain in awe of what people produce.

ah, MrsMozart - that is just as important as the making .
Me, I'm good, though life seems to rush by a bit too quick for my liking - not quite sure where all the time goes!

It was very sad news indeed. Life can be so very unfair, too many amazing people die far, far, too young.

I’m glad we are doing a blanket for them, I hope they can feel the hugs x.

I’m contemplating soaking the wool in cider...😊.

book that is wonderful!

I'm still waiting for my donor wool to arrive. I thought it'd come this morning seeing as I was going to be out, sod's law and all that, but it hasn't.

aww, you are all making me blush!
Thanks Madison . I ordered from Wool Warehouse for square #2 , and the very kind postman left the bag hidden for me when I got back in today. So I can get on with that . Been fiddling with little flowers in the meantime ready to sew on. They seem to take twice as long as normal size ones ..( especially when you have to pull them out as they go wrong a lot !)

I've sent wool (Wool Warehouse). I was delayed in sending it, but did the quick delivery thing so it should be with my lovely person tomorrow. Sorry it's so late. I just need cloning and all will be fine.
