Carron Cake - what can I make?

I am very tempted by the Carron Cakes, but as a fairly new crocheter on a budget I'm not sure if it's worth it? Could I make a Little Hug for example out of one cake? I would say I'm a medium tension hooker. Thanks.

Hi Okki - I haven't used the Carron cakes, what is the weight ? I find that 150-200 gms with a 4mm hook makes the small size Little Hug .

Thanks book. Hmm - they are 200gr but 10ply apparently. Which unfortunately means diddly squat to me. I think I'd better stick with SSDK for now Grin

its a nightmare knowing which is which :) 10 ply is the equivalent of Aran weight, so you need slightly bigger needles ( which is usually on the ball band as recommended needle size) - so it knits/crotchets up quicker, but is a bit bulkier .

They’re not machine washable, which I means they can’t be used for little hugs.

Thought they were acrylic so are machine washable? Lovely to look at in the shop but not been brave enough to buy one yet!

Acrylic/wool mix.

You could try the Stylecraft DK candy swirl? That's 150g which might be just enough for a little hug.

If it helps, I just knitted up two SSDK Candy Swirl cakes:
The first one - cast on 120, ended up 600mm by 480mm, and used all the yarn
The second one - cast on 100, and knitted up 500mm square - with a small amount of yarn left over.

Colour changes on these are very 'sudden' if you know what I mean - there's only about 3 stitches of transition between one colour and the next.
