Our lovely Zombie (who has said she doesn’t mind being outed as Candy) has long been a supporter of Woolly Hugs, bless her for it! Recently she made a very kind donation to us, and we would love to start an Ongoing project to honour this remarkable woman, who we have both had the privilege of meeting, dancing and drinking with. Wine Wine She is utterly fab-u-lous. :)

After a chat with Zombie we have made a plan which she loves. We would like to make comforting cosy blankets with love in every stitch for women going through treatment for breast and other cancers, and at times these may form part of palliative care. They will be called Candy’s Hugs.

Zombie is a bright and beautiful woman so we have chosen a palette to reflect this which we call Vibrant Riot; it is inspired too by a blanket that was made for her to give big hugs as she goes through treatments.

Will you join with us? If you would like to be involved in any way, we’d love to have you on board. Please post on this thread and PM with your offers: crafting, donating, need wool, etc, we can help you with all of it.

The yarn is Stylecraft Special DK. Just this please for consistency, and in these colours...

Vibrant Riot Palette
Boysenberry
Claret
Empire
Fuchsia
Grass
Kelly green
Lavender
Lime
Lipstick
Magenta
Meadow
Petrol
Plum
Pomegranate
Saffron
Sherbet
Shrimp
Spice
Turquoise
Tomato
Violet

Squares to be 12 inch or 6 inch, crochet or knitted equally welcome, please use 4mm hook or needles. No blocking necessary and please sew in ends, and make sure any colour changes are firmly knotted.

All crafting abilities genuinely welcome, squares made by beginner or expert will be equally cherished. Simple, complex, single colour, mixed colour. It really is the love and thought that counts.

If you would like to learn how to knit or crochet in 2017, crack on! We have help for the complete beginner here…. And are on hand to help talk you through as well. YouTube has lots of tutorials, you WILL find one that suits! :)

If you feel ambitious and would like to make a whole blanket, then that is wonderful, we are aiming for blankets approx 48 inches by 60 inches, certainly no smaller.

Candy’s Hugs will be an ongoing project, our first posting date is to be January 28th. Do message for posting info when ready.

We are on Facebook - Woolly Hugs and Twitter too @Woolly_Hugs both are good ways to keep in touch.

Thank you so much xx

Thanks

Lin
I'm clearly not to be trusted with letters or numbers. (MrsH take note)
I only left off the house number & street name BlushGrin....no wonder it took a week for poor postmen to figure it where parcel is supposed to go!
Anyway, it's there, phew.
Happy crafting!

K&P
I love the labels!!!❤

FiveGoMadInDorset · 14/01/2017 13:08

Got home from taking DS climbing and had a lovely parcel of lime and orange Stylecraft and an extra ball for Tunnocks, thank you to whoever donated them Flowers

MadisonAvenue · 14/01/2017 13:13

Zing, that is amazing!

Nothing done here yet today. Had four hours sleep because our oldest comes home from (local) uni for his weekend job every Friday night, usually around Midnight as he has a Fri night shift, so after a catch up we had to sort out his forms etc for accommodation for next year. I've since spent the morning moving furniture in our office to fit in the cross trainer we bought last night.
I've got to get my hair cut shortly and then go and cut my Mom's hair.

I just want to sleep, and knit!

BigApple11 · 14/01/2017 13:23

heymacway they are lovely!

knotty labels - beautiful

PopGoesTheFuckingWeasel · 14/01/2017 14:33

If I aim to get The Zombie into a 60" square, is that big enough?

Yddraigoldragon · 14/01/2017 15:02

Hey Pop how are you feeling today?

PopGoesTheFuckingWeasel · 14/01/2017 15:07

Hi *dragon"! A bit run down (geddit?). Seriously...I was lucky!

Yddraigoldragon · 14/01/2017 15:07

I have been a bit norty, my route home from shopping and posting finished squares went past my local woolly shop. I now have 14 (yes 14) colours from the list, and have replaced those I 'borrowed' from my moorland pack.

Now on settee, feet up with coffee handy, nice woolly rug on lap and cat settling and gently buzzing away.

Happy hooking time for me :)

PopGoesTheFuckingWeasel · 14/01/2017 15:07

Bold fail!

Yddraigoldragon · 14/01/2017 15:11

Hehe Pop you have to laugh eh? Hope you are taking it easy, good excuse to sit quietly with occupied hands.

I made sure to buy tomato shrimp and spice today, there be orange in the bag!

FireflyGirl · 14/01/2017 15:27

I got a bit confused for a minute as to how you managed to buy tomato shrimp with spice at the wool shop, dragon. I blame DS getting me up ridiculously early Blush and my lack of a proper lunch...

I am in the middle of a victorian lace square in pomegranate - I've never followed an actual pattern before, previously I've used YouTube, so I have been chanting away to myself, and there has been a fair amount of frogging and swearing

ChippingInLovesWoollyHugs · 14/01/2017 15:44

HeyMacWey. Welcome 💐

Your squares look fab!

Just pile on in with the chat, don't be bashful or you won't get a word in edgeways! 😂

ChippingInLovesWoollyHugs · 14/01/2017 15:59

Zing. You 🤡 Muppet square is about right 😂

Your 12" square is fabulous, you can be forgiven for being a prize numpty. Kudos to the postie!

BookBook. I wish I could have popped over! 😊

POP. How did it actually happen?

Five. Great colour combo & POP will approve 😁 I can't wait to see your squares!

Madison that sounds far too busy!

Ydd. That's not norty! That's very good Woolly Hugging!

Firefly. It sounds fab, I can' wait to see it!

FiveGoMadInDorset · 14/01/2017 16:07

I am in despair, I have tried for 30 minutes to do a granny square and couldn't get it, back to the needles and going to do a striped square in lime and tomato

PopGoesTheFuckingWeasel · 14/01/2017 16:11

Five don't give up just yet...we all started somewhere! Can any of us help?

Chipping I was basically a Grade A Twunthorse. It was freezing cold, I saw what I THOUGHT was a bus pull up across the road (it was an Argos van, apparantly!) and legged it without looking where I was going!

FiveGoMadInDorset · 14/01/2017 16:14

I think a longer crochet needle will help so I will pick one up next week and have another bash, and maybe try to do loser stitches

bookbook · 14/01/2017 16:33

Afternoon < settles in to comfy chair>
I missed Hey's squares - they are lovely!
Pop - sounds like a lucky escape - are you covered in horrible bruises?
Five - you come and join our group of knitters !
Madison - you cut hair? .
I think I am going to ferret out my crotchet hooks and see what I can do. I really ought not to be beaten by my DD ( mind you - I use to crotchet naice doilies for my DM when I was crotcheting - somewhat different now 35 years on !)
Chipping - another time maybe :) It is sat 'melding' now, making sure I have adjusted the seasoning properly

PopGoesTheFuckingWeasel · 14/01/2017 16:46

Zing is there a pattern for your square? I need a break from The Zombie and it's abundance of bloody annoying post stitches!

Fairyfellowsmasterstroke · 14/01/2017 17:27

I started this lattice square earlier today (as illustrated by a MNer up thread).

By the time I'd got two thirds in I realised that, with my tension, it was going to come out as a 9" square. I'm now rapidly treble crocheting more rounds to end up with a 12" square.

Will report back later
Or tomorrow
Or next week at this rate!!!!!!!!
