Zombie and Woolly Hugs. Come and find out about Candy's Hugs, we need your help.

Our lovely Zombie (who has said she doesn’t mind being outed as Candy) has long been a supporter of Woolly Hugs, bless her for it! Recently she made a very kind donation to us, and we would love to start an Ongoing project to honour this remarkable woman, who we have both had the privilege of meeting, dancing and drinking with. She is utterly fab-u-lous. :)

After a chat with Zombie we have made a plan which she loves. We would like to make comforting cosy blankets with love in every stitch for women going through treatment for breast and other cancers, and at times these may form part of palliative care. They will be called Candy’s Hugs.

Zombie is a bright and beautiful woman so we have chosen a palette to reflect this which we call Vibrant Riot; it is inspired too by a blanket that was made for her to give big hugs as she goes through treatments.

Will you join with us? If you would like to be involved in any way, we’d love to have you on board. Please post on this thread and PM with your offers: crafting, donating, need wool, etc, we can help you with all of it.

The yarn is Stylecraft Special DK. Just this please for consistency, and in these colours...

Squares to be 12 inch or 6 inch, crochet or knitted equally welcome, please use 4mm hook or needles. No blocking necessary and please sew in ends, and make sure any colour changes are firmly knotted.

All crafting abilities genuinely welcome, squares made by beginner or expert will be equally cherished. Simple, complex, single colour, mixed colour. It really is the love and thought that counts.

If you would like to learn how to knit or crochet in 2017, crack on! We have help for the complete beginner here…. And are on hand to help talk you through as well. YouTube has lots of tutorials, you WILL find one that suits! :)

If you feel ambitious and would like to make a whole blanket, then that is wonderful, we are aiming for blankets approx 48 inches by 60 inches, certainly no smaller.

Candy’s Hugs will be an ongoing project, our first posting date is to be January 28th. Do message for posting info when ready.

Pop Wow! That is incredible, the colours we're using would be perfect wouldn't they!

As for posting hooks, surely there's no problem - seeing as you can buy them on EBay, they're obviously going through the postal system.

I have got some of those colours left over from crocheting some blankets for the homeless for Christmas.

For those wanting to learn - there might be a knitting / crochet group near you. We've got a 'Stitch and Bitch' group nearby which meets on a Saturday morning.

Yes, try a local wool shop/craft shop. They quite often hold weekly meets.

MadisonAvenue I think it would take me 3-4 weeks to do if I got my ass in gear. I did a chunky version of this in boakpastel colors for a friend (sorry if this offends anyone, I can't STAND baby pink!). Be interesting to see how it works up in the bright colors!

You aren't being cheeky at all, Pop. You are enabling someone who can't crochet or knit to be part of this project.

Here's the one I did in the chunky yarn. It was about 70x90", so in DK I'm guessing about 50"? I can increase the border to make it big enough to "qualify".

I'm in! I've got some Stylecraft kicking about so will check what colours I've got in before I slunk off to the wool shop in town.

Pop - don't feel cheeky-. I asked , and got that wonderful bagful sent to me. So I thought I had better crack on, and as I seem to be the only knitter, here is my first, simple , one - hot off the needles, all curled edges .....I thought a heart would be a good start :)

If anyone is looking for cheap hooks, I recently found that Wilko's sometimes has a small pack of 3 hooks in 2.5mm, 4mm and (I think) 6mm sizes. Aluminium.

It was wonderful to receive it MrsMozart ! , 1 ball will do 3/4 squares, so it will make a lot of squares and blankets. Will keep me out of mischief

Pop you're just north of me, I'm in South Staffs. My son's been up your neck of the woods today, he's just this minute walked in from going to the Stoke match. Not that he was supporting either team, he just went with friends.
