Very sadly, lovely Hellenbach lost her husband to cancer back in May. Many of you may have followed her thread as she shared their last few months together. Our heart goes out to her , her boys and their family and we send them much love.

Hellenbach has accepted our offer of a Woolly Hug and were are so pleased that we can do this for them. We hope it may give whatever comfort it can to them all.

We need crocheters, knitters and donors (of funds or wool) Sincere thanks.

If you would like to be involved in any way, please post on this thread and PM us with your offers: crafting, donating, need wool, etc, we can help you with all of it.

Thank you so much Thanks

• “I would absolutely LOVE a woolly hugs blanket! I have over the years heard about you amazing ladies. Seeing the pictures they are absolutely beautiful.

My husband was half French and so French related things would be good. Other hobbies were Arsenal, Tour de France, Elvis, the Beatles, and gardening. He also loved totrtoises. Our initials are H, E, L and P (!)

I cannot begin to tell you how excited I am!
Thank you so much xxx” *

Hoping we can make a lovely blanket to envelop them in our love.

Simple or complex, made by beginner or expert, we genuinely welcome them all. It really is the love and thought that counts. There is support for buying colours on our website, here. Squares to be six inches, using 4mm needles or hook. Previous blankets can be seen on our website If looking for ideas for a pattern, there are many linked to from our website under Crafting

I have packed up my squares for Hellenbach and Echt, but forgot to say who they are from. They come with six balls of wool from my stash that I'll never get round to using, along with a random square I knitted a while ago that you may be able to use for someone.

Glad you like it! It's called "spiked" from the crochet block book someone recommended a few threads ago.

British terminology.

Ch 2n+1
1: 1dc into 2nd ch from hook, 1dc into each st to end, turn.
2: ch 1, 1dc into each st to end, turn.
3: ch 1, 1dc into each st to end, turn, change colour.

  1. ch 1, 1dc into first st, spike, 1dc repeat to end, turn.
  2. ch 1, 1dc into first st, spike, 1dc repeat to end, turn, change colour.
  3. ch 1, 1dc into first st, spike, 1dc repeat to end, turn.
7: ch 1, 1dc into each st to end, turn. 8: ch 1, 1dc into each st to end, turn. 9: ch 1, 1dc into each st to end, turn, change colour.

Repeat 4-9.

To "spike", insert hook one row below, then work dc as usual.

My square is in Drops Merino Extra fine colour 14 - Knotty/Pistey is this too purple? the colour name is blue but it's looking like lilac as I'm making it. It's all I have that's blue to make my square and don't want it to stick out like a sore thumb!

MadisonAvenue · 13/10/2016 10:12

Phew! Thanks for the deadline extension, I've been so caught up with organising us for our holiday next week (and cleaning the house for my MIL's stay as she's dogsitting) that I'd fallen behind.

That said, I have one square to complete and there'll be a package on it's way before I flee the country!

PeaceOfWildThings · 15/10/2016 11:24

Bumping. Am just selecting colours and designs for this now.

I'm not sure I have the right reds or creams, would just blue be ok? Any thoughts on whether pale blue, mid blue or dark blue preferable?

KnottyAndPistey · 17/10/2016 16:58

Mine should be with you any day now.

PeaceOfWildThings · 19/10/2016 09:56

Have just sent you squares for lovely Hellenbach's blanket. I'm not sure if the colours I used were the right ones (am 99% sure the cream is ok, not sure if the red is.)
Also included a couple of winged heart motifs which would need blue and red backgrounds, hope that is not an inconvenience. Much love to all.

KnittingPearl · 19/10/2016 12:46

Very excited that the deadline is extended. Had pm'd on Monday (?) to ask if I could sneak in. Will pm again re wool, as I would love to contribute.

whenallissaidanddone · 19/10/2016 14:32

The nameless blue and green squares are from me. So glad you got them ok. If you need any more, do say.

WhatWouldLeslieKnopeDo · 20/10/2016 22:25

Phew! I panicked that I'd missed the deadline. I've been rather slow with my squares recently.

Is it all blues? I have a gorgeous dark blue (Drops 27). But I have lighter ones if you think it would be too dark.

KnottyAndPistey · 21/10/2016 14:52

Afternoon all, apologies for being quiet on here, it has all been rather mad at home, not bad, just mad Wine

AmaDablam · 06/11/2016 10:54

Hi glad you like them. Sorry I don't have a link but it's called tricolor square (caught my eye for this one because of the name and French theme) and it's in The Crochet Handbook by Ruth Patrick.
