Such sad news, Rumer, the beautiful baby daughter of TheDisillusionedAnarchist has passed away at only 3 months old. She had Edwards' syndrome, (trisomy 18) which gave her many problems. Bless her heart. Sad TheDisillusionedAnarchist's thread is here

We have offered to make a blanket and are so pleased lovely Disillusioned has said yes. We hope that the blanket may give whatever comfort it can to them, celebrating Rumer’s life, one filled with love.

Thanks

Lovely Disillusioned has sent us this message below, it gives lots of ideas, we know we can make something truly beautiful for them.

“Thanks so much, so difficult to know what we would like, I really don't know. So thought I'd just tell you a bit about what reminds us of Rumer and that might give people ideas. We would be so happy with anything.

Rumer had a rainbow blanket like this she is buried in it and we had it over the altar in her memorial service. We really like bright colours and this was the first thing we bought her.

She liked singing, we sang her Waltzing Matilda, Wind the Bobbin Up, Speed Bonnie Boat, Morning town ride, The Teddy Bears Picnic, Incy Wincy Spider. That was our standard repertoire.

She also had her grey bear with us who had the original name of er Grey Bear. She had 3 copies of chromosome 18 which was very much part of who she was, it gave her sweet crossed over fingers as well as her many problems.

She was dressed often in her little grey elephant suit which she is buried in and she is buried in our back garden hopefully we'll plant a tree for her. This is the video we showed at her memorial service which shows her blanket and elephant suit etc. Happy for you to share.

Hope that is okay, so many thanks for doing this”

Bless them all Thanks

Yarn and colours, important, please note….
TheDisillusionedAnarchist, and her family are vegans, so this Woolly Hug will be made in Stylecraft Special DK, in these rainbow colours

  • Lipstick
  • Spice
  • Saffron
  • Citron
  • Meadow
  • Sage
  • Denim
  • Storm Blue
  • Aster
  • Violet
  • Lavender
  • Wisteria
  • silver just for bear and elephant embellishments.

Can you help us in any way?

We shall need crocheters, knitters and donors. If you would like to donate yarn or funds, we can match you up. If you would like to join in but need donated yarn, we can help there too.

Please PM with your offers of help. THANK YOU SO MUCH.

Reading this will give lots of ideas but please don't feel daunted we truly love plain squares and simple textures too. They look as stunning as the more complex squares and play a vital role in the overall effect.

  • Squares to be 6 inches, using 4mm hook or needles. All crafting abilities genuinely_ welcome, squares made by beginner or experienced are equally welcomed. It really is the love and thought that counts.
  • Please do PM if you need help. When finished please sew in those ends* but don’t block your work. Then PM for details for posting.

Previous blankets can be seen on the Woolly Hugs website and we are on Facebook as Woolly Hugs and Twitter @Woolly_Hugs which are both good ways to keep in touch.

As always heartfelt thanks for your support

Thinking of beautiful baby Rumer and her family, sending so much love Thanks

Morning. Yes please for something off the list, as hobby craft don't sell stylecraft and I can't remember where that came from!

Is stylecraft ok for Chernobyl?

KnottyAndPistey · 10/03/2016 08:25

Morning lovely, yes, stylecraft is what we are using for the Chernobyl project, just means we can guarantee consistency for wash and wear and balance of colours, thank you. Thanks

I've just sent someone in Cheshire a selection of colours, but noticed on the wool warehouse site the code SC23 gets you 10% off, in case that's helpful?

KnottyAndPistey · 10/03/2016 12:36

Thank you so much Thanks

I would like to join in too, if I'm not too late? Already doing a Chernobyl square but will order some suitable colours for this project. I remember Rumer's thread and am torn between feeling so happy she held on for so long, against all the odds, and so sad that she spent such a short time on earth.

KnottyAndPistey · 11/03/2016 07:35

Not too late at all lovely, thank you so much Thanks

Jenijena

I am in Cheshire and I have received a whopping bag of colours!

If that was from you, thank you very much. I hope my knitting does you proud!

If it wasn't jenijena, thank you, whoever you are!

I have just completed a 12 inch square for the Chernobyl project.

After tea, I will start on something for rumer. Beautiful name, why didn't I think of it?

pterobore · 13/03/2016 13:02

Finished my square last night. I hope it'll be ok, just got to do the ends and I'll post it

WhyCantI How fabulous your knitting is.

WhyCantIuseTheNameIWant · 19/03/2016 09:25

Thanks Marci.

I like to think "above average"

But I was brave enough to make a Cardi for a mate for Xmas.

I hope the recipients of these and the Chernobyl ones are pleased too.

It's nice to knit for people who appreciate it!

JoMalones · 19/03/2016 09:32

If it's not too late and you don't mind a beginner's basic square, I could do one or two?

KnottyAndPistey · 19/03/2016 10:56

Welcome Jo not too late at all, thank you, beginners and experienced equally welcomed here, do you have yarn?

WhyCant fantastic, thank you so much Thanks

I'm massively behind the times with this blanket but I'd like to contribute. I have the colours I will need.

Thinking of Rumer's mum and dad. She looked so loved in the photographs. Flowers

JoMalones · 20/03/2016 09:25

Knotty I don't but I can get some if they sell it online?

ChipInTheSugar · 20/03/2016 22:01

Have got some squares to send: meadow, spice, lipstick, denim and one other - might be lavender, but equally might be bluebell. If it is bluebell, please just put it towards the Chernobyl blankets.
