Such sad news, Rumer, the beautiful baby daughter of TheDisillusionedAnarchist has passed away at only 3 months old. She had Edwards' syndrome, (trisomy 18) which gave her many problems. Bless her heart. Sad TheDisillusionedAnarchist's thread is here

We have offered to make a blanket and are so pleased lovely Disillusioned has said yes. We hope that the blanket may give whatever comfort it can to them, celebrating Rumer’s life, one filled with love.

Thanks

Lovely Disillusioned has sent us this message below, it gives lots of ideas, we know we can make something truly beautiful for them.

“Thanks so much, so difficult to know what we would like, I really don't know. So thought I'd just tell you a bit about what reminds us of Rumer and that might give people ideas. We would be so happy with anything.

Rumer had a rainbow blanket like this she is buried in it and we had it over the altar in her memorial service. We really like bright colours and this was the first thing we bought her.

She liked singing, we sang her Waltzing Matilda, Wind the Bobbin Up, Speed Bonnie Boat, Morning town ride, The Teddy Bears Picnic, Incy Wincy Spider. That was our standard repertoire.

She also had her grey bear with us who had the original name of er Grey Bear. She had 3 copies of chromosome 18 which was very much part of who she was, it gave her sweet crossed over fingers as well as her many problems.

She was dressed often in her little grey elephant suit which she is buried in and she is buried in our back garden hopefully we'll plant a tree for her. This is the video we showed at her memorial service which shows her blanket and elephant suit etc. Happy for you to share.

Hope that is okay, so many thanks for doing this”

Bless them all Thanks

Yarn and colours, important, please note….
TheDisillusionedAnarchist, and her family are vegans, so this Woolly Hug will be made in Stylecraft Special DK, in these rainbow colours

  • Lipstick
  • Spice
  • Saffron
  • Citron
  • Meadow
  • Sage
  • Denim
  • Storm Blue
  • Aster
  • Violet
  • Lavender
  • Wisteria
  • silver just for bear and elephant embellishments.

Can you help us in any way?

We shall need crocheters, knitters and donors. If you would like to donate yarn or funds, we can match you up. If you would like to join in but need donated yarn, we can help there too.

Please PM with your offers of help. THANK YOU SO MUCH.

Reading this will give lots of ideas but please don't feel daunted we truly love plain squares and simple textures too. They look as stunning as the more complex squares and play a vital role in the overall effect.

  • Squares to be 6 inches, using 4mm hook or needles. All crafting abilities genuinely_ welcome, squares made by beginner or experienced are equally welcomed. It really is the love and thought that counts.
  • Please do PM if you need help. When finished please sew in those ends* but don’t block your work. Then PM for details for posting.

Previous blankets can be seen on the Woolly Hugs website and we are on Facebook as Woolly Hugs and Twitter @Woolly_Hugs which are both good ways to keep in touch.

As always heartfelt thanks for your support

Thinking of beautiful baby Rumer and her family, sending so much love Thanks

I have just realised I am knitting with a stylecraft special teal.

It is for a small toy, but there will be loads left.

Will teal be ok?

It's a bit greener than it looks in that picture.

KnottyAndPistey · 08/03/2016 17:51

We weren't using teal for this, the danger is that if there is a tiny bit then it will look out of balance iyswim. Would you like us to send you something off the list?

Teal would be perfect for the Chernobyl project xx

Hi there I'm thinking of doing squares depicting Incy Wincy and Morningtown Ride. I know you said the silver was just for elephant and bear motifs but would it be OK if I used it for a rain cloud and train track?

KnottyAndPistey · 09/03/2016 13:14

Yes lovely, thank you, go for it, be perfect xxxxx

Thanks

I can't seem to see a date to post squares by....sorry I'm slow. What's the last date please?

PenelopeClearwater · 09/03/2016 17:09

It's from 100 Bright and Colourful granny squares. Page 99. It's the cartwheel flower.

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 09/03/2016 17:23

Marcipex

Last posting date tends to be about 6 weeks after start of thread, that's what I remember (hope I'm right!)
But that's just a rule of thumb, Knotty & Pistey will let us know in good time. :-)
