Lovely toriap2 is one of our own Woolly Hug crew, and we were so very sorry to hear her desperately sad news that her DH had passed away. We are so very sorry for their loss and our thoughts are with her, their daughter and their family. We hope that this blanket will bring some comfort at such a devastating time, we were so glad they accepted our offer. Tori's thread is here.

We shall need crocheters, knitters and donors. If you would like to donate wool or funds, we shall need both and we can match you up. If you would like to join in but need donated wool, we can help there too.We have part balls if any hookers need yarn, please say. Please PM us with your offers of help THANK YOU SO MUCH.

  • Toria’s DH loved Dr Who so lots of themes for squares and embellishments right here, we are sure there must be heaps of patterns around.
  • We also have the family’s initials if this is something you can do.
  • Purple was his favourite colour.

The yarn we are using...

  • Artesano Superwash Merino DK
  • Debbie Bliss Rialto DK
  • Drops Merino Extra Fine DK
  • Jenny Watson Pure Merino DK
  • Patons Merino Extrafine DK
  • Sublime Extra Fine Merino Wool DK Just from the brands listed please because we know they combine for wash and wear. If you still have any of our wools that have been discontinued - Rowan Cashsoft DK, Debbie Bliss Cashmerino DK or James C. Brett Pure Merino DK in your stash, please do use them.

Our palette:
Blues
Purple
Silver
Then these for accents/embellishments only: Jenny Watson pure merino DK WM7 ‘taupe’, white and black.

Please don't feel daunted, we love plain squares and simple textures too. They look as stunning as the more complex squares and play a vital role in the overall effect.

Squares to be 6 inches, using 4mm hook or needles.

All crafting abilities genuinely welcome, squares made by beginner or experienced are equally welcomed. It really is the love and thought that counts.

Please do post any questions regarding crafting on the thread or PM if you need help.

Do use thecrafting guide on the websiteto help you with lots of practical info such as help with buying colours, recommended online retailers and if interested there are a lot of linked suggestions for patterns.

Our Crafting Guide is a good place for support, and previous blankets can be seen on our website too. We are on Facebook - Woolly Hugs and Twitter too @Woolly_Hugs both are good ways to keep in touch.

When finished please sew in those ends but don’t block your work. Then PM for details for posting.

As always, thank you so much for any support you give us. These blankets really wouldn’t happen without your wonderful team efforts. Thinking of Toria and their daughter, all who love and miss her DH.

Thanks

Count me in too. Such sad news.

I have Drops Merino - I think the shades are light grey, light grey/blue and marine blue. They are part balls so I don't have ball bands for all of them but I think the shade numbers are 05, 19 and 27. Would they be OK?

I'll PM you now.

Stratter5 · 13/01/2016 19:56

I do not have any wool, sorry. Could I be sent some, I'm confined to barracks and can't get to the LYS.

pterobore · 13/01/2016 20:00

I'd like to take part too. Could you possibly send me some yarn? I'm a crocheter, hope that's okay. I usually do the refugee blankets but would like to do this too.

SpiralArchitect · 13/01/2016 20:13

I will make a couple of squares - I have woolly wool in suitable colours. Will PM now.

We already have a lovely donor to thank. Honestly donations mean so much, we always want to be inclusive, for everyone to join in if they would like to, and some folk just wouldn't be able to afford to. Your kind donations make it possible, we really are so grateful.

Thanks MrsKwazii Star

Bless your heart, thank you Thanks

Are there any particular shade numbers that you prefer us to use as the silver colour?

KnottyAndPistey · 15/01/2016 07:49

Morning Brew

Not particularly with the silver, have been sending out bits for crochet, and they have been a couple of different shades, but I know one was this Drops 05 version

Back to PMs, what a marvellous response we are having. Thank you everyone Thanks
