Desperately sad news we’re afraid. Shineyshoes10’s beautiful 20 year old DD1 has died from cystic fibrosis. Life is too cruel, we are so sorry.

We are so pleased that Shiney has accepted our offer of a Woolly Hug, there will be love for them all in every stitch. She says she is very touched. We hope the Woolly Hug may give whatever comfort it can to Shiney and her family.

Once again we are calling on the Blanketeers for help - whether it be donating, knitting or crocheting. Can you help us?

We asked Shiney about her daughter…

She enjoyed baking
Love teddies and going to the beach.
The stars and moon have special meaning, Shiney’s daughter looked up at them all the time with her little brothers.
Her favourite flowers were roses.
We do have the initials if anyone can help us with them, it would be brilliant.

So there are lots of ideas for squares, but please don't feel daunted by these suggestions, we love plain squares and simple textures too. They look as stunning as the more complex squares and play a vital role in the overall effect.

Our colours, please read carefully as these are quite specific

*Yellow Shiney’s Dd loved bright yellow - please just use this one - Paton’s merino extra fine DK ‘Canary’ 00121

*Orange She loved this too - just from these please…Sublime Extra Fine Merino Wool DK - Pumpkin (373) orDebbie Bliss Rialto DK - Tangerine (56) or Debbie Bliss Rialto DK - Burnt Orange (43)

*Green, apple shades please, but for embellishments only.

*Stone - either Jenny Watson Pure Merino DK WM9 Beige or Debbie Bliss Rialto 06 Stone (+James C. Brett Pure Merino DK 17 Beige if you still have any)

  • Duck egg - but one of these two please - Debbie Bliss Rialto DK ‘aqua’, or ‘duck egg’
Thanks

We can help with all crafting queries, just post questions here or message if you’d rather.. All crafting abilities genuinely welcome, squares made by beginner or expert are equally welcomed. It really is the love and thought that counts.

If you would like to donate wool or funds, we can match you up. If you would like to join in but need donated wool, we can help there too. Please PM us on KnottyandPistey with your offers of help so we know where we are. Thank you.

Our Yarns

  • Drops Merino Extra Fine DK
  • Jenny Watson Pure Merino DK
  • Debbie Bliss Rialto DK Sublime Extra Fine Merino Wool DK? Artesano Superwash Merino DK
  • Patons Merino Extrafine DK (new this time)

Just from the brands listed please because we know they combine for wash and wear. If you still have any of our wools that have been discontinued - Rowan Cashsoft DK, Debbie Bliss Cashmerino DK or James C. Brett Pure Merino DK in your stash, please do use them.

Our listed yarns are all easily available online - Wise Badger have some very good offers at the moment, also Deramores, Wool Warehouse, Laughing Hens stock our brands too.

Do use the crafting guide on the website to help you with lots of practical info such as help with buying colours, recommended online retailers and if interested there are a lot of linked suggestions for patterns. Squares to be 6 inches, using 4mm hook or needles. Always feel free to post questions on the thread if unsure. When finished double knot the yarn and using a needle please sew in your ends but don’t block your work. Then PM for details for posting.

This means so much to the Shiney and her family, thank you so much for joining with us.

If not already, do join us on Facebook - MNWoollyHugs, or @MNWoollyHugs on Twitter, good ways to keep in touch in addition to here.

Thank you once again

Thanks

Knottyandpistey I haven't posted/knitted/crocheted squares for the blankets for sometime, but I do have a whole 11 balls of Debbie Bliss Cashmerino in colour 18016 Blush Pale pink - a very soft salmony pink, which I am happy to post to you to distribute.

I'm thinking about an orange square (have the DB Tangerine) with some gingerbread men appliques.
would it be ok to use the Nutella from Sublime?
also I'd use some bright "Smarties" colours on them - JW red, Artesano baby teal and denim, DB apple and fuchsia and the lemon yellow I was sent before (the discontinued one). Would that be all ok Oh Mighty Queens Of WH?Wink
