We are so very sorry to hear of the tragic loss of PetaOs dear husband. Reading Petas thread, he sounded such a wonderful family loving man, taken from Peta and their young son by cancer at only 32.

We are so very sorry for their loss and our thoughts are with them and their family. We hope that this blanket will bring some comfort at such a devastating time.

We shall need crocheters, knitters and donors. If you would like to donate wool or funds, we match you up. If you would like to join in but need donated wool, we can help there too.

Please PM Pistey (RatherBeOnThePiste) with your offers of help THANK YOU SO MUCH.

The Yarn we are Using:

  • Artesano Superwash Merino DK
  • Debbie Bliss Rialto DK
  • Drops Merino Extra Fine DK
  • James C. Brett Pure Merino DK (also discontinued, some still to be had)
  • Jenny Watson Pure Merino DK
  • Sublime Extra Fine Merino Wool DK • Debbie Bliss Cashmerino DK, although discontinued you may have some in your stash

Just from the brands listed please because we know they combine for wash and wear.

Our palette:

  • Warm purples
  • Greens
  • Blues
  • Cream – but please keep to one of the following: Debbie Bliss Rialto DK 02 ecru, James C Brett Pure Merino DK no. 7 or Jenny Watson Pure Merino DK WM4

We are also using red and yellow for embellishments but are using very specific shades. Please PM Pistey if you would like either of these colours.

Ideas and suggestions for squares from Peta, in her words:
DH loved green.
He was Welsh and very proud of it.
He played the guitar and loved bands like the. Stereophonics, Foo Fighters, Oasis, all that stuff.
He ran a lot. He loved being outdoors He loved travelling to new places. We went to Rome, Croatia, Portugal. Awesome places full of history and stunning scenery.
He loved being a Dad - playing with DS, taking him to rugby tots, reading to him, playing him songs on the guitar, going for walks along the canal, playing in the park. I don't know. If there could be something on there which would show how much he loved spending time with DS..
He was really into cars. He loved volkswagons- Mark 1 golfs and campervans especially.

This certainly gives us lots of motifs to think about, but please don't feel daunted by these suggestions, we love plain squares and simple textures too. They look as stunning as the more complex squares and play a vital role in the overall effect.

  • Squares to be 6 inches, using 4mm hook or needles.

All crafting abilities genuinely welcome, squares made by beginner or expert are equally welcomed. It really is the love and thought that counts. Please do post any questions regarding crafting on the thread or PM Knotty if you need help.

Do use the crafting guide on the website to help you with lots of practical info such as help with buying colours, recommended online retailers and if interested there are a lot of linked suggestions for patterns.

Previous blankets can be seen on the Woolly Hugs website and we are on Facebook and Twitter at MNWoollyHugs/@MNWoollyHugs which are both good ways to keep in touch.

When finished please sew in those ends but don’t block your work. Then PM Pistey for details for posting.

As always, thank you so much for any support you give us.
These blankets really wouldn’t happen without your wonderful team efforts.

Thanks

I have no 'crafting' bones in my body so I'm vicariously living the 'crafty life' through this thread. Well done to all of you creative people, you talented lot. GrinThanks

RatherBeOnThePiste · 01/12/2014 11:01

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 01/12/2014 11:43

I really, really like this angel that I've pinched from MNHQ's Christmas thread. Did one of you make this?

I notice that you do auctions... maybe requests? I would love some of these in different coloured-dresses... IF it's possible, though no rush!

BellaVita · 01/12/2014 21:22

God knows where my wool is.

I ordered from Deramores last week for both blankets and it still hasn't arrived Angry. They are usually very good and wool normally arrives the next day by post. Apparently they have sent it via MyHermes which doesn't bode well...

RatherBeOnThePiste · 02/12/2014 09:09

Will have a think for you Lying xx

Yes to MyHermes, what a mistake. I think this will lose them custom, puts me right off. MyHermes are not my choice, we had a bulk order go missing once by Country Crafts who use them too. Never arrived.

I would encourage you to flag it up to Deramores - I can't see this being a long relationship for them.

BellaVita · 02/12/2014 17:41

My wool order finally arrived this afternoon! Huzzah. If it hadn't of turned up by tomorrow I would have called them. I am sure Deramores send a survey thing to complete about their service, if I can I will pop a comment about the courier on there.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 03/12/2014 07:19

Please do Bella, for everyone's sake!

Good news though, thanks lovely x
