Mia’s Wood is an area of woodland bought in memory of beautiful red headed Mia who was just 13 months old when she very sadly died in October 2011. If you have read MiaAlexandrasMummy’s threads about her daughter, you will not have failed to be moved by her love which pours out.

In her memory, Mia's family are developing this natural space for the local community around Milton Keynes and in Buckinghamshire to love and enjoy, and already trees and flowers have been planted. They have great plans to take this forward and develop the site further, making it truly magical. It really is such an inspirational, fantastic project, and in September we are planning a fundraiser to help them do this.

What the family say about Mia's Wood
Mia's Wood hopes to pass on Mia's love of nature to local families, children and young people, and especially to bereaved families. At Mia's Wood, we want to create an environment which promotes an innocent wonder of nature, to stimulate curiosity and imagination, to encourage children to preserve our fragile natural woodland through both visits and special events. For bereaved families in particular, we would like to think that visits to Mia's Wood will provide both hope and solace.

Just beautiful.

Oo, I've just looked at the Pinterest page - am positively drooling over it Smile

When do the schools go back in England?

WoolPixie · 08/07/2014 22:20

Oooh count me in. Will have a think about what to make.
Much love to Mia's family Thanks

KnottyLocks · 08/07/2014 22:23

Strawdolly, state schools break up 19th/23rd July. Most back around 2nd Sept.

WoolPixie · 08/07/2014 22:24

Have a great book with all sorts of bugs n things to make, will have to dig it out. It probably has a slug pattern too...

Strawdolly · 08/07/2014 22:26

Thank you, Knotty Smile

rubycon · 08/07/2014 22:40

Sarahandfuck - if you have the pattern I'll make it and a couple more!

KnottyLocks · 08/07/2014 22:44

Rubes, I think it's in a book. Looks like a combo of knit and crochet.

Suspect WoolPixie may have the book I'm thinking of. Title summat about birds and beasties...bit vague as the smallest darling giving me the runaround

rubycon · 08/07/2014 22:50

the frilly bit looks knitted - if anyone not being harassed knows the title I'd have a look for it!

GlaikitFizzog · 08/07/2014 22:57

www.amazon.co.uk/75-Birds-Butterflies-Knit-Crochet/dp/1844486168 it's this one

RatherBeOnThePiste · 08/07/2014 23:05

Hope small settles soon Knots. Mine watched footy and now there's an awful lot of shrieking and faffing.

Can't quite believe it but I luffs that slug. Normally they make me go but that one makes me think awwwww. :)

Time for bed. Night all. X

KnottyLocks · 08/07/2014 23:11

That's the book.

Smallest now snoring between me and himself. Time to give in. Night all and thanks x

I would love to make some items for this, I am not in the UK though,am in Australia, would that be OK?
I have so many patterns for butterflies, fixds and owls, would love to contribute.

Tarlia · 09/07/2014 08:53

Good morning. There are some really cute acorn yarn craft patterns and woodland animal masks that would work up beautifully in felt on Pinterest. How about some flower hair clips?

RatherBeOnThePiste · 09/07/2014 08:55

Sarah Those are fab! I'm thinking we may be able to track this slug down, fingers crossed. That's not a line one normally writes. There was a friffin HUGE monster slug outside my kitchen door today. Hideous. Woolly ones much nicer.

Gully All welcome to join us, we love being an International bunch of woollies!

Our Sale is the weekend of September 5th-7th, you will need to post earlier than our date of August 27th as things do take a bit longer from Australia, maybe say by August 21st? We need time to sort this end, photograph etc. Equally if there is something in our Sale that you like, you are very welcome to buy, we have shipped things to Australia before!

RatherBeOnThePiste · 09/07/2014 08:55

Ooooo Tarla How fabulous, thank you, yes please!

SarahAndFuck · 09/07/2014 09:04

Thank you, she was very pleased with them. There is a fifth one and I strung them on bobbly ribbon for her, but for some reason I haven't taken any photos of the finished thing.

She likes her skulls and halloweeny things so as a gift it was an oddly successful one.

I'm surprised at how popular the slug is. You might have to start a Woolly Slugs group for all his fans Grin

Kveta · 09/07/2014 09:27

LOVE the hedgehogs!

SarahAndFuck · 09/07/2014 09:37

The hedgehogs and the foxy hat are great.

Mhw02 · 09/07/2014 09:50

Aw Pistey, that bunting's adorable!

Right, I need to go out and buy a double pointed needle. I only have three and apparently I need a fourth to make some mice! I also need to work out how to knit in the round as I've never done it before, I use my DPNs as cable needles!

ifyourehoppyandyouknowit · 09/07/2014 10:00

I've found a couple of patterns this morning, do bee's count as woodland creatures?

And that slug is adorbz.

I found a real hedgehog in my cul-de-sac last night. Don't think he would fit in a large letter.
