Woolly Hugs : A Blanket for snorris and her family

RatherBeOnThePiste · 22/06/2013 13:38

We have heard the desperately sad news that snorris' daughter has lost her battle against a congenital heart condition she was just 7 years old. Snorris' thread is here if you would like to add your condolences. She starts it with a different name (accidia) as you will see.

We send snorris love from us all and are so sorry for her loss. She and her family are in our hearts and thoughts X

We have offered to make snorris and her family a Woolly Hug and hope it may give whatever comfort it can to them. We are so pleased that they have accepted.

So once again we are asking for your help Thanks

I will co-ordinate and Knotty (KnottyLocks) is here to answer any queries you may have. We need crocheters, knitters and donors (of funds or wool). If you would like to be involved in any way, please PM me with your offers, crafting, donating, need wool etc

Heartfelt thanks Thanks

Simple or complex, made by beginner or expert, we genuinely welcome them all. It really is the love and thought that counts.

Do use the crafting guide on our website for help and ideas. Previous blankets can be seen here too. We are on Facebook at MNWoollyHugs and on Twitter @MNWoollyHugs. Both are good ways to keep in touch.

When ready for posting, please PM me for info.

So sad that another blanket is needed. Snorris my lovely, we are thinking of you and the girls, your family and friends and sending love X

I won't be able to hold the needles at the same time as holding a wine glass, Pistey.

GlaikitFizzog · 27/06/2013 17:28

You need one of these then BIWI! Hands free drinking!

BIWI · 27/06/2013 17:52

Can I shout out for help from the knitters please?

I am a really slow knitter so would love to avoid having to do a practice square if at all possible. My knitting is always very tight ... perhaps that's why I'm slow! ... can anyone give me their best guess for how many stitches to cast on? I've looked at the crafting guide on the website and 33 has been suggested for the average knitter, so do you think 36 would be good for me?

Thank you in advance Smile

GlaikitFizzog · 01/07/2013 18:24

is it.just plain knitting you are doing? I'm an Annie average and 33 is perfect for me. if you Grr on the wise of caution a long as it stretches to 6inches you'll be fine. give 36 a go and see where you are after half a dozen rows or so.

apologies for the typing in ony phone in a moving car!

BIWI · 01/07/2013 18:57

I do 34, which works out fine for me - and satisfies the OCD need in me for even numbers Blush

Mintyy · 01/07/2013 19:16

Thank you, thank you. I did a few test rows with 36 and it was too big, so now I've gone down to 34, done 12 rows BUT now need to unpick a row (doing stripes and miscounted). This is bringing me out in a sweat so I've put the knitting down for a bit and am trying to calm down Smile.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 02/07/2013 08:38

You all sorted now Mintyy?

Morning Smile Brew and at BIWI giving knitting advice. Who'd have thought?

Biwi is my knitting guru Smile.

I haven't unpicked that row, no. Am scared!! Off to work today and will sit calmly with a proper online tutorial tonight.

Am pleased with my wool though, which I bought locally, a sort of dark denimy blue and a mid baby pink. They look nice as stripes.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 02/07/2013 08:55

I'm going to make her a badge.

Sounds gorgeous Mintyy, I love stripes.

Good morning (morning here) :)

Wine? or Brew?

I'd like to report that my magnolia flower is half done! I'm actually rather proud of myself. It looks just like the picture in the pattern! I'm doing the leaves in cream, the centre in purple and just a teeniest little titch of yellow in the middle. Then I'll sew it to a square of deep pink.
Should be pretty.

But I think I'm only good for one magnolia. This is seriously a ton of work. Granted, the most difficult thing I've so far attempted has been the granny square and little flowers, but wow - I was cursing and mumbling to myself and making DH giggle at me. I might do another square in similar colours but with little round flowers, if that's ok.

I'm sorry if it's been asked already but is there a posting deadline?

BIWI · 02/07/2013 19:16
Grin If I'm your guru Mintyy you are truly fucked!!!
BIWI · 02/07/2013 19:17

That's a technical term, obviously
