The continuing story of how Team Woolly Hugs does running. All newcomers very welcome!

Our first fabulous runner, PiggyPlumPie has been there, done that and quite literally has the tshirt (gorgeous btw) and we are looking forward to more runs taking place round the country, and further afield maybe?

We are doing this to support the Billie's Blanket Project being run by the Woolly Hugs community, see here This project was launched as a tribute to beautiful Billie, our lovely MrsDeVere's daughter, who devastatingly died at 14 from leukaemia. We launched this at the time of her 21st birthday. In Billie's name, and through World Child Cancer we will send little blankets to children who are suffering from cancer, and who really need a Woolly Hug and to feel loved and looked after. Our first batch has already gone to Malawi, the next will go to Ghana and Bangladesh.

We are helping raise funds so that alongside Billie's Blankets, we can send a donation to World Child Cancer. Money is so scarce, they really have so little. There will be other fundraising events this year, but we are RUNNING!

These are where the 5K runs will takeplace, they are all over. But even if you run round the block and someone sponsors you to do so, it all counts!

Our Just Giving Page is here. Donations are welcome at any time, huge thanks for those already in. At this moment we are up to £1,116.33, where will be be when this thread is full?!

Enter established events soon to avoid disappointment. Let us know when you are running so we can cheer you on, and please use this thread for support, and general running things, the support here is awesome and we love Piggy's idea of tying a woolly bracelet on to run, then we are all with you as you go. Smile

MNWoollyHugs on Facebook - come and find us, you can still remain anonymous Smile

For novices....Woolly Hugs Guide to Running

  • Put down your woolly wool, crochet hooks and needles.

  • Find your trainers, these are sort of soft bouncy shoe-things that go on your feet.

  • Find something loose and comfortable to wear, and no we don't mean a caftan.

  • Open front door and go outside.

  • Put one foot in front of the other with speed and determination!

YOU are RUNNING!

The children that WCC support need all the love and comfort possible. So please, in memory of a sparkling young girl who always thought of others, we'd love you to help us help them.

As ever, thank you so much for your support.

Thinking of Billie and her family Xx

Earnest - I don't know if you did or not Grin Surname is as in twinkle, twinkle - first initial 'A' ...

RatherBeOnThePiste · 21/05/2013 15:04

Where is the end of the run? Because after we've waved you off we are going to all have to trot to the end. Or we will all go on FTS's DD's scooter Grin Or I will go on the scooter and make them run

Ha, it wasn't you then, oops BlushGrin Definitely an MNer though; one of the names that crops up on several of my MN/FB friends' statuses etc.

If you have BIWI on FB all she talks about is her love of crochet and sewing

Hello lovely running ladies. I am officially bricking it for Sunday. Why exactly did I think this was a good idea? I've got my runs up to 7.5k, and I feel like I could go further at the end, but I just get bored, fingers crossed the crowds pull me through on the day!

5mad am Envy at your times, you are going to put me to shame. I think we will have to have lots and lots of cake at mums on the weekend after. I've had to stop netball for this week, as it is wrecking my calves and shins and leaving me hobbling around for days afterwards.

Dilema; my running partner has done exactly NO training unless you count lifting pint glass to her mouth as training and I'm a bit Hmm because I really want to finish in a decent time, and I don't think I'm going to be able to wait for her/stop every couple of minutes. I need to get into my rhythm and just power through. I hope she doesn't get annoyed if I leave her behind.

Oh, and I'm a bit sad because DH isn't coming to watch me finish. He doesn't want to bring toddler DS into the city centre and cope with him and crowds and all that faff. I understand his point, and I know that he will get all stressy and DS will get whingy at not being allowed to go play in the traffic, but still. I wanted them there.

Can't wait to see pictures of all the woolies down in London!

NeitherShreddedNorSmug · 21/05/2013 16:03

The end of the run is the same as the start I think - on the Mall. If we meet at the family area, which is just outside Green Park tube station, to start with, we can all wander across to the start together?

We runners will need to line up by our numbers/bib colours - I'm in group B of the green slow start zone.

I will probably be there super-early because of the rubbish bank holiday train service. I've posted on my local parkrun's FB page to see if anyone else from my neck of the woods is going.

I plan to try to have a long-ish run today/tomorrow, and to do parkrun on Saturday.

I'm known for my love of all things domestic, I'll have you know.

NeitherShreddedNorSmug · 21/05/2013 16:12

Easily - where are you running? Can we muster some MN support for you?

My DH can't come on Monday to see me and the other Woollies - he's on crutches. DCs will likely stay at home with him instead of coming into London.

I think you should run at your own pace. I think it's more tiring running too slowly than too quickly. Fair enough to run together if you've trained together and have a similar pace, of if one of you is injured/ill at the last minute and the other is happy to slow down, but not if one of you has trained hard and the other hasn't.

A good friend and I did a half marathon back in January. She's faster than me anyway, but I was hoping she'd pull me along in her slip stream. As it happened I had a terrible run, and was slowing her down so I sent her off after the first mile. She felt guilty (and her DH was cross with her for leaving me Smile), but I'd have felt even worse for slowing her down. If I was your partner, I'd be willing you to go as fast as you could.

FuckThisShit · 21/05/2013 17:13

Earnest it was me you added! I was just going to ask Pistey 'who is she' but I've no need to now!

5madthings · 21/05/2013 17:38

easily you will be fine, I think the crowds help cheer you on, if my dp can run the London marathon with eight weeks of training and never going more than 15miles you will become to power through the last few Km's.

My times aren't that good but i can run at a consistent 6:30 over km for an hour so I think I could do it in an hour and 5 mins but meg and I are aiming for an hour and ten mins but it will depend how crowded it is etc. We are both green group c.

biwi I think you commented on a post of mine the other day on Fb, that I had tagged mrsdevere in bit we aren't actually 'friends' on fb which makes me wonder if I need to re check my security settings actually! Not that I mind you commenting and happy to add you but I wonder if all my posts have become 'public' somehow rather than 'friends' only, bloody fb.

BigStickBIWI · 21/05/2013 19:21

I'm rapidly losing the plot as to who is and isn't a FB friend!! 5madthings - give me a clue as to who you are? And you too, Earnest? Then I ought to add you both anyway - would make life a lot easier! Grin

BigStickBIWI · 21/05/2013 19:21

Oh, I'm reasonably nice, house-trained and all that ...

5madthings · 21/05/2013 19:36

Just accepted your friend request, I thought it was you when you commented the other day, it was the carb related discussion that made me think it was you Grin

mrsdevere I bought some butterfly clips for my hair today to wear on the run :) I also got dd a new tankini swimsuit with butterflies on, its lovely, I was horribly mean and wouldn't let her wear it for the school run tho, she would have frozen!

EarnestDullard · 21/05/2013 20:10

BIWI, I'm KA, just sent you a friend request today. Have now sent one to 5mad too, hope that's ok.

EarnestDullard · 21/05/2013 20:11

(OK with 5mad I mean; I'm sure BIWI doesn't mind that I've sent a friend request to 5mad! Grin)

5madthings · 21/05/2013 20:23

That's fine :) shall go check and accept :)

FuckThisShit · 21/05/2013 20:27
