Our sympathies and thoughts are with daisydotandgertie, who lost her husband this month.

Woolly Hugs is now in action and this is the support and chat thread at which all are welcome - knitters, crocheters and donors. If you are a first time crafter please do have a go. There is bags of support and plain squares are just as important to our endeavour as fancy ones.

As flowers was one of the requested motifs, I'll just note there's a flowers section in the crafting guide. I might try the posies pattern on this sock pattern. For Welsh (or at least Celtic) patterns, I did this for a previous blanket.

I got an email at something like 5.42 this morning to say my order had been dispatched! Shock That's efficient!

Wish I'd been a little more patient now though as could of ordered some more for Trinity's blanket too Sad

Trib.............

I'm on the beak now I only have 4 DPN the same size. Am I stuffed? Or could I just knit it in the round the stitch it on? I wasn't terribly keen about picking up the stitches from the actually body for the feathers.

droitwichmummy · 14/05/2013 16:58

You are fine Glaikit. Make sure you use a stitch marker where you are starting (middle of bottom of beak) and off you go. Stick with the DPs as you will be decreasing and running out of space on a circular needle

GlaikitFizzog · 14/05/2013 17:14

To knit then stitch it on? Or to do it like the photo?

droitwichmummy · 14/05/2013 17:16

Do it like the photo - it will make a nearer join & trying to stitch it on afterwards could be a nightmare.

GlaikitFizzog · 14/05/2013 17:21

But how do I knit if all 4 dpns are arranged as per photo? I have no right hand needle to pass the stitches on to. Am I being thick, but I've only ever has 3 needles holding stitches and the fourth free to "knit with" iykwim?

TheOneWithTheHair · 14/05/2013 17:35

Can I just ask a question please? My first square is a smidgen over 6". Is that ok?

KnottyLocks · 14/05/2013 17:38

That is fine Smile

As long as a smidge isn't 2" Obv!

TheOneWithTheHair · 14/05/2013 17:41

Grin It's about an eight of an inch.

TheOneWithTheHair · 14/05/2013 17:42

I'm a bit nervous as its the first one I've contributed to and I want it to be my best because it really matters. I hope that makes sense.

droitwichmummy · 14/05/2013 18:09

Glaikit either split between 3 needles instead of 3 or split between 4 and knit between ones with stitches on so put the marker on 1, then knit stitches from 1 to 2, then 2 to 3. Does that make sense?

GlaikitFizzog · 14/05/2013 18:12

I'm going to do the tail first

droitwichmummy · 14/05/2013 19:28

I have faith in you! You made a dragon so I know you can do this Wine

GlaikitFizzog · 14/05/2013 19:46

I'm doing it droit! I'm only bloody doing it! :o

tribpot · 14/05/2013 19:49

Glaikit, I'd just do it on 3 dpns. The pattern is meant to be taken quite so literally! Alternatively you can do it on a circular and use magic loop.

Don't try and sew it on, it will end up looking droopy and Angry Bird doesn't like droopy Wink

I've just cast on using the JB Merino wool and even in the casting on have noticed that it's splitting Confused. Any tips to make knitting with it as easy as possible? I haven't got much time on this one so can't afford to make a mess of it!

Trazzletoes · 15/05/2013 09:41

BIWI I just started crocheting with mine last night. I nearly cried at the start as it was so solitary but I found that it has got easier as my square has grown. Not sure whether that will be the same with knitting...

tribpot · 15/05/2013 09:50

One idea for splitty yarn here is to try with blunter needles.
