Woolly Hugs Guide to Running

  1. Put down your woolly wool, crochet hooks and needles.
  2. Find your trainers, these are sort of soft bouncy shoe-things that go on your feet.
  3. Find something loose and comfortable to wear, and no we don't mean a caftan.
  4. Open front door and go outside Shock
  5. Put one foot in front of the other with speed and determination!

YOU are RUNNING!!

If you haven't seen Phase 2 of our Little Hugs, the thread is HERE. We launched this phase as a tribute to beautiful Billie, our lovely MrsDeVere's daughter, who devastatingly died at 14 from leukaemia. We launched this at the time of her 21st birthday and we call the project Billie's Blankets in her memory. In her name, and through World Child Cancer, we will send little blankets to children, starting with Malawi and Bangladesh, who really need a Woolly Hug and to feel loved and looked after.

Alongside Billie's Blankets, we are very keen to send a donation to World Child Cancer, as money is scarce, they really have so little. One of the ways we will do this is by running! In May a Woolly Hugs' team will be running the BUPA London 10k, and we are now looking for runners to enter 5K runs throughout the country.

These are where the 5K runs will take place?.. They are all over!

There are already runners committed to running (BIWI, TantrumsandBalloons,me) in London at Crystal Palace on October 13th, and lovely Fizzy and PrettyBird are running in the Glasgow event on July 27th. We would love folk to join with us, or run at a different venue! There is no minimum age and children can be entered, my daughter is running with me, I say with, she will shoot off like a gazelle and I will lumber along. Happily the website says they love fancy dress

Because World Child Cancer isn't a nominated charity we/they ask that you let them know independently. To take pressure off individuals, and to make this a real woolly community effort we recommend that you use our Woolly Hugs Just Giving page for fundraising. Anything you raise will be marvellous, really, and we will all be able to see how much we can raise together.

Our Just Giving Page is HERE Donations are welcome at any time, huge thanks for those already in.

So please have a think, if you are interested, we would recommend entering soon to avoid disappointment. Let us know when you have entered so we can cheer you on, and please use this thread for support, and general running things Couch to 5K apps and playlists for running spring to mind.

The children that WCC support need all the love and comfort possible. So please, in memory of a sparkling young girl who always thought of others, we'd love you to help us help them.

As ever, thank you so much for your support Thanks

Thinking of Billie and her family Xx

Knotty and Pistey

Thanks

Urgh, am way behind in my training, just not been upping the distance as I should be really. Determined to pull finger out this week though. Went for a MEGA run tonight as my inlaws are staying (kill me now. Before I kill them) and I had to get out of the house. Am in pain now!

sis what is this 100 squat nonsense you're doing?!

RatherBeOnThePiste · 07/04/2013 20:04

Spring like today, twas luffly

Twas indeed.

I had a long run this afternoon in our local country park. I saw a magpie, squirrels, rabbits, geese, and lots of dogs and more than I expected to of a man who'd found a convenient tree, and didn't hear me coming up on him despite my elephant like tread and heavy breathing Shock.

Grin

So what was he doing then?!

5eggstremelychocaletymadeggs · 07/04/2013 21:34

easily its a challenge I saw on fb to do 100 squats a day for the whole of April...I managed about a week before deciding that I need to be able to actually walk!! I am still doing some but not 100 everyday!

5eggstremelychocaletymadeggs · 07/04/2013 21:35

When do the in-laws go home easily?

I am on wk 8 of couch to 10k almost wk9 and it ramps up a bit in the next few weeks but I a, running for 40mins now and doing over 6km :)

NeitherShreddedNorSmug · 07/04/2013 21:42

I think he was having a wee rather than lying in wait for innocent runners to come past and get flashed Blush Grin

EasilyBored · 07/04/2013 22:02

It feels like they might be here forever! They leave tomorrow afternoon but I am about ready to cry at this point.

I attempted to do 50 squats earlier and holy shit that's hard!

5eggstremelychocaletymadeggs · 07/04/2013 22:05

Do you have wine?!!

And yes squats are hard and if you do loads your thighs HURT the next day!

5eggstremelychocaletymadeggs · 08/04/2013 18:17

Just back from a run :) going to have to increase my distance as on wk 8 the run is 38mins including cool down/warm.up. My route is 6.5km and takes pretty much exactly 38-40mins so once i start week 7 i shall have to add on a bit of an extra loop; just looking at my route on mapmyrun to see where us best to add on a bit, i could loop round the early part of my run twice or nr the end add on a bit. will be good to start increasing the distance, i am actually sadly excitex at doing my first 8k then 9/10k etc!

NeitherShreddedNorSmug · 08/04/2013 18:51

Go 5!

5eggstremelychocaletymadeggs · 08/04/2013 18:57

Start wk 9 that should say..
And thanks shredded your name makes me think of shredded wheat or shreddies...bfast cereal. But its a reference to the shred dvds isnt it?

NeitherShreddedNorSmug · 08/04/2013 19:10

Grin 5mad.

I've had this name a long time now. It is a reference to the Jillian torture DVDs. The previous name had a reference to me feeling smug after running on the beach on holiday and getting horribly lost, and chased by imaginary coyotes, but that is another story. Then pistey persuaded a bunch of us from our C25K thread to start shredding, and I lost my smugness Grin.

Have you noticed how good pistey is at getting us to do things? A natural leader!

5eggstremelychocaletymadeggs · 08/04/2013 19:56

She is indeed good at nagging cajouling us along!

I keep thinking about the shred dvds.... I think thinking is enough! I do do a davina dvd sometimes and will aim to do it tomorrow eve as dp.is at work from 8am-11pm so i wont be able to run.

My thighs are still feeling the after effect of all the bloody squats i did! Out of all the people i know who signed up for the 100 squats a day challenge only one person is still doing them. Apoarently it gets easier, but i prefer to be able to walk up and down the stairs not hobble!

5eggstremelychocaletymadeggs · 08/04/2013 19:56

I am intrigued by the coyotes! Grin

Even got BIWI knitting

Impressed with pistey's powers of persuasion.

I went to a new knitting group last week. I took my crochet along with me (rebel that I am). One of the other crocheters pointed out that I crochet like a knitter because I use both hands instead of wiggling the hook in and out Grin.

BIWI · 09/04/2013 12:05

If Pistey ever tells you that she has moved into Time Shares, run like the wind.

NeitherShreddedNorSmug · 09/04/2013 12:53

NeitherShreddedNorSmug · 09/04/2013 12:53

We can now!

Blatherskite · 09/04/2013 13:00

TheRealMBJ tried to get me crocheting. Even sent me DD a little knitting dolly thing and a hook.

I just can't do it Sad I am not a crochet-er

I can run though. Someone convince me I want to sign up for another 10k on Sunday...

NeitherShreddedNorSmug · 09/04/2013 13:02

Of course you do Blathers. Where is it?

Blatherskite · 09/04/2013 13:37

Flitwick. It's a pick-your-number-up-when-you-get-there type race so I can enter last minute. Lots of my club are going.

Just feel like I've lost my mojo recently

Blatherskite · 09/04/2013 21:49

I've been headachey all day but convinced myself I really should go running anyway. It was hard going and I struggled all the way round but I managed to pretty much equal my PB so I'm happy.

I've started my diet again and I think I'd done a little too well today which is why it was so hard. I just had no fuel.
