Woolly Hugs Guide to Running

  1. Put down your woolly wool, crochet hooks and needles.
  2. Find your trainers, these are sort of soft bouncy shoe-things that go on your feet.
  3. Find something loose and comfortable to wear, and no we don't mean a caftan.
  4. Open front door and go outside Shock
  5. Put one foot in front of the other with speed and determination!

YOU are RUNNING!!

If you haven't seen Phase 2 of our Little Hugs, the thread is HERE. We launched this phase as a tribute to beautiful Billie, our lovely MrsDeVere's daughter, who devastatingly died at 14 from leukaemia. We launched this at the time of her 21st birthday and we call the project Billie's Blankets in her memory. In her name, and through World Child Cancer, we will send little blankets to children, starting with Malawi and Bangladesh, who really need a Woolly Hug and to feel loved and looked after.

Alongside Billie's Blankets, we are very keen to send a donation to World Child Cancer, as money is scarce, they really have so little. One of the ways we will do this is by running! In May a Woolly Hugs' team will be running the BUPA London 10k, and we are now looking for runners to enter 5K runs throughout the country.

These are where the 5K runs will take place?.. They are all over!

There are already runners committed to running (BIWI, TantrumsandBalloons,me) in London at Crystal Palace on October 13th, and lovely Fizzy and PrettyBird are running in the Glasgow event on July 27th. We would love folk to join with us, or run at a different venue! There is no minimum age and children can be entered, my daughter is running with me, I say with, she will shoot off like a gazelle and I will lumber along. Happily the website says they love fancy dress

Because World Child Cancer isn't a nominated charity we/they ask that you let them know independently. To take pressure off individuals, and to make this a real woolly community effort we recommend that you use our Woolly Hugs Just Giving page for fundraising. Anything you raise will be marvellous, really, and we will all be able to see how much we can raise together.

Our Just Giving Page is HERE Donations are welcome at any time, huge thanks for those already in.

So please have a think, if you are interested, we would recommend entering soon to avoid disappointment. Let us know when you have entered so we can cheer you on, and please use this thread for support, and general running things Couch to 5K apps and playlists for running spring to mind.

The children that WCC support need all the love and comfort possible. So please, in memory of a sparkling young girl who always thought of others, we'd love you to help us help them.

As ever, thank you so much for your support Thanks

Thinking of Billie and her family Xx

Knotty and Pistey

Thanks

Week 5 is a bit of a bitch, isn't it?!

Otherworld · 04/03/2013 11:15

Don't read ahead.

And believe that you can do it. This part of C25k is about matter over mind. If you believe you can then you will. Running is more than physical training - it's mental training too.

Good luck! I remember hitting week 5 and thinking the same way. There is a thread on here where I said the same thing (under a previous name - I was 5ofus).

Not a running day for me but my car is broken so I will be doing school runs on a bike with DD in a trailer which I think will count as training!

Just got my number and timing chip for Sunday's run too which is giving me butterflies. Not sure why as I know I can do the distance but organised runs always make me feel a bit nervous. I still feel sick before Parkruns even after 24 of them Hmm

5madthings · 04/03/2013 11:21

Sticks fingers in ears...also starting wk 5 on wed...lala La la.

But as my route is longer than the time the app takes I have been running more at the end and did 10mims the other day, around 5mins I thought think 'fucking hell' then once you get past that its OK, its def a mental thing as physically it feels fine.

Dp has gone to work and is not back till tomorrow eve, so he won't see the children til wed am amend then only for half an hour before he is back off to work. Bloody shitty shift work.

I have said that when he gets in tomorrow eve I will be ready to go out as he gets in the door, esp if ds2 continues with his stroppy behaviour, stroppy children are very good motivators to get out and go run I am finding!

Well done mrsdevere !

Blatherskite · 04/03/2013 11:25

It's definitely a mental thing 5mad. It works all the way up though. Run club leaders keep telling me I could easily do a half marathon but I just can't get my head around it at the moment.

5madthings · 04/03/2013 21:05

Back from my run, all was quiet here the little ones stayed asleep whilst ds1 got on with his homework. I can run quite easily for a good ten mins now as at the end of the app I keep running for the cool down and a bit longer as my route is longer than the time the app takes. I am going to lengthen my route this week as I feel like could keep going when I get home, I can see how much my fitness is improving!

Have already told dp that moment he gets in tomorrow I will be off out for a run. Feel so much better for going having had a few days where I felt frazzled with the children etc, running seems to improve my mood :)

Hope everyone else had good day?

How is tantrums getting on? I know meg is recovering from an alcohol filled weekend... And easily has been away getting pampered at a spa jammy cow

NeitherShreddedNorSmug · 04/03/2013 22:53

You will all be fine Grin. By the time you get to the long runs it's all in the head - that goes for your half too, Blathers!.

I am going to go and run a mile to fulfill my mad March pledge. And get rid of some grumpiness.

MegBusset · 05/03/2013 13:08

Ran 5k today, hooray! First run this year without hoodie, hat & gloves!

Blatherskite · 05/03/2013 13:32

I'm really hoping I get to go out tonight. DS has been throwing up since about 4am and I could do with the fresh air!

I cannot get this. I'm doing my Clic Sergeant run on Sunday!

BIWI · 05/03/2013 15:28

Today was supposed to be R1/W5, but I ended up with a gym appointment with my trainer instead.

So will go out running tomorrow instead. Neither - I'm sure you're right that it's in my head (after all, I can manage all manner of things in the gym Grin), but I just can't seem to shut my head up!

Don't thank me yet MrsD, I've got to not come down with the dreaded sick bug yet. I can't do 10k while throwing up Sad

So far so good though. Even DS has stopped puking now so fingers crossed we're over it

5madthings · 05/03/2013 17:11

Ooh hope you dont get the sickness bug blathers
Well done to those that ran/went to the gym today.

I ran last night and am due to run tomorrow but given the way the madthings are behaving i will run this evening just to de-stress!

Have had a tv company on the phone wanting me to participate in a prog for channel 4 and at the same time a guy coming to collect a stairgate we free cycled all whilst ds3, ds3, ds4 and dd were eithet wanting me to get them food/drink or were sceeching at each other... I havr escaped to the garden for a fag before i throttled them!

Its to do with the 'let toys be toys' campaign aimed at changing the way retailers and manufacuters reinforce gender roles with toys.

It was startex on mnet. There is a fb page. Would post a link but am on my phone...

Its all very interesting but another thing to deal with and dp is working crazy shifts at mo

And now ds2 and ds3 sound like they are trying to kill each other...is it a full moon or something...give me strength...

5madthings · 05/03/2013 17:47

And to top off my stress the ONE thing rudi wants for his bday (15th march) is out of stock...well.unless i am prepared to pay silly money on ebay and my parents have just invited themselves for a visit at the wkend.

I know its crazy. Looking at the sellers they seem to be 'collecters' of marvel hero type stuff and thats the problem lots if adults are buying it for collector purposes and selling it 'mint in box' grrr i feel really ranty its a kids toy and my four year old wants one to play with. Why buy it and keep it on a shelf in the box!!!

5madthings · 05/03/2013 18:15

Its like xmas 2011 all over when he wanted a specific lotso.bear and it sold out... I ended up getting a relative to buy one in america and post it over... Blush i may be messaging her on fb later to see if i can do the same thing again... Why do they set their hearts on the one thing that you cant get??
