A blanket for Beatrice - knitting support thread

Another Woolly Hugs project has been started in desperately sad circumstances :( You will already have seen that Beatrice, the daughter of Cupofteaplease, has died. Our thoughts and sympathies are with her family.

No deadline yet. I think it'll be a slightly longer time span than usual as there have been some difficulties with wool supplies.

Waves madly to Trib! Hiya, I'm back with the huggers, having moved house and am in the middle of renovations, but am trying to keep all the dust off my squares and flowers for Bea.

I got my wool from Stash Fine Yarns ordered on Friday, here on Tuesday - not one of the normal MN suppliers, but if you're as impatient as me, maybe worth a try.

Welcome back, Gleaming! House move and renovation all sounds very tiring.

My donor yarn has arrived...a deep purple and a silvery shade.

Hi Pistey, yes trib it is a bit tiring... carpets will finally go back down on Wednesday, Hurrah! Then time to try and get the kitchen done by Christmas.

Your yarn sounds lovely DancingShoes, have you got a plan for the square you'll make?

I photographed what I have done so far, but in all my household chaos, cannot cuurently locate the cable to attach camera to laptop... maybe it'll turn up soon!

I started a thread yesterday as I thought ii might have broken my wrist. The general consensus was that its a ganglion cyst. On further research they can be caused by repetitive strain. It seems my new hobby is causing problems. Anyone else had this problem?

Flojo - I definitely get an elbow ache from too much knitting. I've found that knitting in the continental style is much easier to do without strain. That said, it is an absolute bugger to learn when you're used to knitting in the English/American style with the yarn in your right hand.

These two videos show what I mean, the has the more complete explanation and the then explains how to do it for the knit stitch specifically.

I actually took this video course in order to learn how to do it, and then needed a lot of practice. I'm really glad I've done it now, but it was very frustrating to begin with.

Gleaming - I moved house 5.5 years ago and I'm still finding things. Fortunately I think this means my DH will never find out what I decluttered before we moved without telling him.

Oh no flojo! We can't be having that. I'd suggest resting it a bit. When I fitst got involved with the blankets I found it kind of takes over and your body can complain a bit (with me it was my shoulder). I had a couple of days of no knitting and then eased my way back in and it was fine. Hope it is for you too.

Flojo ouch that sounds nasty, hope you're going to get the wrist checked out and it feels better soon

trib I can't do that continental style, the UK one is just so ingrained! When we were packing up the last house I just had a rule that I sat in front of DH (he has mobility difficulties and couldn't really help) and everything had to go into the keep or not keep pile, NO maybe pile and any hesitation it went into the not keep, it was pretty ruthless and successful, except that he acquired his mobility difficulties in the middle of this process and we didn't revisit stuff we'd already done so his bloody golf clubs are still cluttering up the kitchen

Yes I think a trip to the GP is in order tomorrow, just to check that's what it is and if resting will help etc.
(if I bend my hand forward, as in if going to touch the inside of my wrist with my fingers, a huge hard lump pops up on the back of my hand where my wrist in.

Oh Flo hope it goes well tomorrow and it's sorted soon, what a shame if the knitting/crotcheting caused it, hope you're able to carry on when the pesky wrist is sorted.. you can stay here and be all supportive to everyone else in the meantime, that's just as important a job as actually making things!

I've had a few problems with my wrist recently as well so have been looking a knitting in different styles . I am a thrower but have been trying the lever method , holding the needle like a pencil, find continental very confusing . The worst thing I find is socks for giving me a sore wrist.

I am also a little behind on squares as have cricked my neck and can't look down

Do we need a bench for the injured crafters? Complete with Woolly Hug of course

hope you are feeling better soon, outtolunchagain and am sure it would be alright to leave your squares for another time, another woolly hug rather than exacerbate any injury/strain.

Or you could try some !
