I have to admit that it has taken me while to write this. Sometimes it feels that despite all the words at our fingertips, there are never the right ones.

This morning we learnt of the heartbreaking news that Cupofteaplease's beautiful daughter, Beatrice, had been taken from us: another bright star to light the skies above us.

If you have followed Cup's threads, you could not have failed to be touched by Bea's magic and be inspired by her mother and her family (affectionately known as The Teaset ) who ensured that for Bea, 'A life filled with love is a life worth living.'
Their dedication to Bea, their bravery and love reached many hearts and touched many lives. Bea will live long in our hearts and memories.

Our thoughts and love are with them all and we hope that this blanket may give whatever comfort it can to them.

We would be very grateful for your help. Here's how:

We need knitters, crocheters and donors.

RatherBeOnThePiste will coordinate and match crafters and donors, and deal with the admin side. I'll try to answer any queries you may have.

If you would like to be involved in any way, please post on this thread and PM Pistey with your offers: crafting, donating, need wool, etc, and she will match you up.
Whatever way youd like to be involved, please PM Pistey: it really helps us to know how many people are involved. Thanks

The wool we are using:

  • Debbie Bliss Cashmerino DK (NOT the baby cashmerino)

  • Rowan Cashsoft DK.

*Sublime Extra Fine Merino Wool DK.

*Artesano Superwash Merino DK.

They are very similar and can be combined.

  • 4mm knitting needles or hooks

  • knitters cast on 33 stitches (this is a guide for less experienced knitters)

  • 6" squares

The Colours:

Pinks, blues, greens, warm purples, silvers and cream (we'd be grateful if you use Debbie Bliss 013, if opting for cream)

If you wish to make flowers and bees and would like to use yellow, please PM Pistey as we have some in our stash and we would like to use the same colour throughout. Thanks

Ideas for squares:

Motifs:
Bees, primroses, violets, daisies and any other flowers.

Please don't feel daunted by any of the ideas as we really love plain squares and simple textures too. They look as stunning as the more complex squares and actually play a vital role in the overall effect.

Previous blankets can be seen here on the Woolly Hugs website . We also have a Facebook page: MNWoollyHugs and are on Twitter @MNWoollyHugs. If you 'like' our Facebook page, you'll be updated on progress via your News Feed.

As always, we thank you so much for your support.

Thanks Thanks Thanks Thanks

Sally, meeting up wtih other MNers one has not met before (or met only once at a drunken Christmas night out 2 years ago) is a minefield Grin.

SallyBear · 02/11/2012 23:09

Well I did laugh about it Grin these things always happen to me. Smile

NeitherShreddedNorSmug · 02/11/2012 23:24

Grin trib. I won't sleep tonight for shame.

Yes, I survived Sandy with no damage. I'm one of the lucky ones - I live just above the point where the power went off. I have taken in four friends who were further down and have been without without power, light, heat and hot water since Monday.

Grin Glaikit. Where did you think I was Grin?

GlaikitFizzog · 02/11/2012 23:36

The Middle East! I picture you knitting on the back of a camel all done up like I Dream of Jeannie!!

Someone is in the Middle East, I'm sure of it! Confused

tribpot · 02/11/2012 23:39

Well yes, Glaikit, the Middle East is populated by millions of people. You're right to be convinced of this fact Wink

KnottyLocks · 03/11/2012 07:59

Morning all Smile

Grin Grin Grin

RatherBeOnThePiste · 03/11/2012 08:40

I wonder what PisteyLand would be like?

FizzyOne - we currently do have a crafter in the Middle East, she's been on here talking about it, and wool is on its way there from us. Tis just not our Shredded, she is The New York Branch of the International Blanketeers. Smile We have had folk making for WH and International branches on all continents except Antarctica. So if anyone is looking to move, do consider it, then we can complete the set. Thanks

And I'm sorry we didn't meet you Sally, we asked Cup at the do after but she didn't think you were there. We shall have to remain mysterious. Smile Actually, I am a mystery to myself half the time Grin

Am catching up with PMs, thank you to everyone, it is very busy in the World of Wool. ThanksThanksThanksThanksThanksThanks

Pisteyland? Where do we start? Grin

SallyBear · 03/11/2012 09:31

Pistey, I thought about going to the wake, but really wanted to get back and squeeze my kids. They all objected obviously!!!Grin
Cup and I live about 10 miles apart, so I'm sure that the next time there is a MN meet up then I may tag along! Smile

Birnamwood · 03/11/2012 09:35

The gremlins are in my pm system! It won't let me send pistey one. Bloomin gremlins Envy < gremlin face

RatherBeOnThePiste · 03/11/2012 09:45

Stop! Stop! Grin Grin

I have received it six times Grin I have replied too.

It seems that if you go through Message Poster, you get this weird fault message, but it goes through anyway. Check your sent box if not sure.

The PMs seem to work better if you go into messaging and make a new one, then it seems fine.

It is just MNHQ keeping us on our toes, and our PM boxes stuffed full, be too easy if they worked properly. Smile Thanks

And yes, Sally, please do!

GlaikitFizzog · 03/11/2012 09:47

Thank you pistey! Wink I was obviously getting my Blanketeers muddled up!

Glad to know you didn't get blown away by Not a hurricane Sandy Shredded!

I know someone who goes to the Falklands quite a bit I could teach him to knit and send one from Stanley! That's nearly Antarctica! Do they even have post on Antarctica?

HokeyCokeyPigInAPokey · 03/11/2012 10:14

Pistey haven't seen you mention my wool arriving. When you have a minute could you check please, I brought it somewhere different this time so want to check it has arrived safely or I will chase as it is very late. Thanks

RatherBeOnThePiste · 03/11/2012 10:27

Haven't heard from them Hokey, but will follow it up for you right now. I know there have been all sorts of supply problems from our regular online suppliers.

Let me check with her though before you follow it up Thanks

Birnamwood · 03/11/2012 11:21

Sorry pistey Blush in my defence I've been up all night with a poorly baby and my brain wasn't engaged Blush

Lovely, lovely wool has arrived, a gorgeous db pink and a cream.

Thank you to my donor Thanks

ExitPursuedByABanger · 03/11/2012 11:40

I hardly dare ask. Did my wool finally reach its destination?

RatherBeOnThePiste · 03/11/2012 13:02

Exit Yes! Just heard. It was collected from the sorting office this morning. Thank you so much. Just about to do today's thank yous Thanks

ExitPursuedByABanger · 03/11/2012 13:05

Hurrah!

RatherBeOnThePiste · 03/11/2012 13:13

Lots of donor wool hasn't arrived yet, I sent out a PM to all those still waiting this morning to double check, so will be PMing those affected just to get you to follow up. It seems supply problems across the board this time, and orders are being held onto whilst they wait for deliveries. Hokey yours hasn't arrived yet, def time to follow up, It might just be a matter for you to change your colour. I had to so that with a Cucumberpatch order earlier in the week.

We are very much aware of this though, and as Knots said before, we will have a longer making time than usual before last posting. So please no one worry

KnottyLocks · 03/11/2012 13:38

Don't panic!

PacificDogwood · 03/11/2012 13:51

Quick technical question before I go out: my first sqaure is a tiny bit small, say 14 cm, unblocked. I can easliy add a border - should I, or leave as is?

Thank you.
