Support thread for Mumof2TeenBoys' and Expat's Blankets

Following on from the terrible news of the loss of Mumof2TeenBoys' ds, a new Woolly Hugs project has been started and, as ever, MNers have stepped up to offer whatever little comfort we can to Mumof and her family. We also keep close in our thoughts Aillidh, the dd of expatinscotland, who died yesterday.

We've put together some general info mostly about knitting but with some crochet bits thrown in, which should get you started but please feel free to ask for any help - I'm not sure if the crocheters are going to set up a new support thread but their current one is found here.

Please dive in - we will inevitably end up talking bollocks rubbish at some point but all are welcome aboard.

Don't know where numbers came from silly iPhone!

Jules146 · 17/07/2012 22:02

Trib fantastic squares, very impressed, they look so good :)

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 17/07/2012 22:32

Trib that is lovely. I've just finished a square for MumofTwo, in similar colours, there's a pic at the top of my profile pics, but I think yours is nicer.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 17/07/2012 22:34

Ignore that last bit, what I was going to say was couldn't load it from Iphoto or Finder for the life of me, had to go over to the Windows laptop.

WhoKnows, that great and love the colours, the compliment each other so well :)

bobkate · 17/07/2012 22:56

Loving looking at everyone's lovely squares...what a talented bunch Smile

tribpot · 18/07/2012 07:12

WhoKnows - easiest way to load from iPhoto is to export the photo first, say to the Desktop. If you really want to load the original that iPhoto has in its own directory you can right click (I think) and do something like 'View in Finder' which will show you where it's hidden.

However, in reality it's easier to use something like Flickr, where you can upload directly within iPhoto, and so you're also not limited to the very small size of photo MN allows. (Plus I don't think the MN iPhone app allows you to upload photos?)

Morning all Brew

PurplePidjin · 18/07/2012 07:27

Morning, Pistey, Brew and thanks for the woolly parcel it arrived yesterday! I shall begin once i get my village show entry out of the way Hmm

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 18/07/2012 07:35

That's what I did Trib, exported it to Documents and then tried to upload it to MN but MN just kept giving an error every time I tried to upload it, although it is not that big. It went first time from the PC. I keep meaning to set up Flickr but haven't got round to it yet.

I don't use the MN iphone app, prefer the desktop version on Safari, but haven't tried uploading a photo directly via the app.

Thanks Jules.

tribpot · 18/07/2012 08:05

I'd let Tech know, WhoKnows. I'm guessing the resolution was different on the photo on the PC but it'd be useful if MN told you what its max setting was!

I might do that, I have loaded them via the Mac previously. It was late, I was tired, I'll try it again later and see what happens. I hadn't tinkered with the photo at all, had emailed it to myself so it was on both computers but it had been through a few stages by the time it got to MN either way.

Glaikit · 18/07/2012 08:57

Morning! Raining here today, so it's knitting day! Yay!

I may be spending too much time here as I had a dream about you Trib. We were working together, and we were in a big meeting. I kept calling you Trib and you kept calling me Glaikit! Everyone else was Confused. We were discussing the benefits of shared service!!

Anyhoo! Best get on. Ds is licking the floor again!

MinnieBar · 18/07/2012 10:11

Morning all... picked up my needles after about 10 days off now that I am a big-shot author and I am sorry to say that I have lost the teeth-tarsia knack. Back to a very rather jumbled mess at the back. Still looks ok from the front though so

Trib do you swap colours every 4 rows for that daisy stitch one? I think daisy stitch might possibly be my favourite textured stitch. For now anyway!

The blanket for MrsKwazii's daughter looks absolutely amazing. I think I may have spotted some of my squares in there, but I'm not sure as what I sent in were crumply quadrilaterals and what's in the blanket are neat-looking squares. Magic!

Glaikit · 18/07/2012 10:46

Are you Minnie? How did I not know that?

I see my stripy square in mrsk's blanket! Feel quite emotional seeing it.

MinnieBar · 18/07/2012 12:41

Ah, I'm rather overblowing my trumpet - I have indeed been commissioned to write a book, but a very short one albeit with a stress-inducing particularly short deadline and under a pseudonym.

It is pretty amazing seeing the final blanket close-up isn't it? Not only in context but so many different squares from different people into one utterly unique and beautiful end result.

craftynclothy · 18/07/2012 16:45

Pistey I have finally posted my squares today but I'm an idiot and forgot to say that the unlabelled squares are for the blanket for Mumof2TeenBoys. the others are labelled.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 18/07/2012 17:11

Heartfelt thanks to our Knotty for hooking MrsK's small blanket together, total star that she is Thanks Hug for you Knots X

And I agree, there is something amazing, something truly awe inspiring and moving about a finished blanket isn't there? All those people joining together to show support and love for another, so yes beautiful to look at, but beautiful in spirit too. Felt quite emotional seeing mine there too Glaikit Smile

Having one of these Brew and it is smashing. Would like one of these [kitkat] but there don't seem to be any

craftynclothy Thank you lovely I will remember X Thanks

FaceCrack · 18/07/2012 20:40

knotty what a star you are! It looks brilliant. Smile

I'm about to unpick my square

pistey if you find any kitkats lurking, chuck one my way.

tribpot · 18/07/2012 20:43

Minnie - it's every other row for that daisy stitch. You do a row of knitting, a row of daisy stitch, then switch colours.

chipmonkey · 18/07/2012 20:59

Uploaded a pic of my second square. Rose on a blue background.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 18/07/2012 22:27
